My Other Interests

Other than tractors, I do have other Interests. Antiques. Mrs. M and I used to sell antiques at a local, but now defunct antique mall. My specialty was Hoosier cabinets and cameras. However, here lately we have been collecting Roseville pottery, washboards and old kitchen items. Something that I didn't know existed until about a year ago was a giveaway that was packed inside of Kellogg's cereal boxes in 1937.

 

 

These 13" wooden mixing spoons are fairly rare around here, but I have lucked into finding these nice ones over the last year.

 

Washboards, which were a common item in homes in the 19th century, now sell in antique shops for anywhere between $15.00 and $150.00. Some being more rare than others. I recently found this one for $18.00

 

 

After a complete disassembly and cleaning, this is the result.

 

One identical to this recently sold on eBay for $108 00. I'm holding on to this one.

We share your interest in antiques also Bob. Our whole house is really a bit of a living museum both i and my wife enjoying the old ways. Many of them are items passed on to us from family. Of particular interest also are old items related to both our professions which we avidly gather. Not only we enjoy it but guests are always eager to see everything. A comment made recently was “ there is always something to discover on your place”.

Cool stuff Bob!  I like the wooden spoons, like they are all a bit unique!

 

*edit* I’ve driven by the Kellogg’s factory about every time we head south on the highway, to pick up at least two tractors that I recall, and for other trips.  It’s about 45 minutes away and cereal is likely the only reason Battle Creek is still on the map.

Tonka, Buddy L, Structo, Nylint, Looney Tunes, farm toys and O gauge trains. My dog caused an explosion and derailment at the boiler plant on my layout today!

Are those all a product of Ertl? And do I even see a Wheel Horse model? The Nylint(?) WH truck is also awesome!

I sold quite a few things at a consignment auction last year. "Thinning the Herd" a little. PM me what you're interested in. Most of what I have I want to keep but who knows

Most of the garden tractors are dealer promo's. Some are actually banks. Wheel Horse models are in the tall cabinet and the Big truck is Nylint. Bought it at an auction years ago. The truck came up for Auction with a Goodyear truck. By one or take them both. I got out bid by another guy and his little boy wanted the Goodyear one. I ended up getting the WH truck for $25

Us too. 

Our house walls are decorated with old tools from generations passed/past. 

Most from family. Some from friends who've seen the house and decided their item would be better displayed here.

Thanks for the info. That's probably why I did'nt know of them until now.. gonna be pretty hard to find I think.. oh well, don't "need" any more models anyway.

Yup and a funny thing. I had 2 complete sets of those as a kid. Built all kinds of stuff. A few years back I saw a canister of them at a flea market. Didn't get them out until this spring with the train set. They didn't stay connected very well. Then  did some research and found out 2 different  companies made them and the newer company didn't build them the same. I got a set off of e bay from the old company and built a barn for the layout that locks together.

 

When I built those bldgs. I had as much fun as I did when I was little. I don't mind when the dog blows up the bldg as it gives me an excuse to build it again!
