The sheet metal tab on the end of the right steering arm and tiebar pivot is not even shown or listed in the 502, 552, and 702 Manual. Only one piece, none on the left side. 953 nut 55,290 #3 Posted September 7, 2022 The metal part that saddles over the steering arm keeps the nut from coming loose. The shoulder bolt passes through the tie rod and steering arm and the saddle acts as a washer. 1 3 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I know, the 400 Suburban I owned had them on both ends of the tie rod yet others of the same year didn't even have a grease fitting in the pin. The RJ didn't have anything retaining the pin except a cotter key on the right and a round steering arm passing through it on the left side. @Wild Bill in VA, come on over and school us on this dilemma please. Wild Bill in VA 1,452 #10 Posted September 7, 2022 Ok Ok that little metal tab was to keep the steering arm from breaking. In the beginning those cast steering arms would break easy, so Wheel Horse added the more malleable steel to give a little when the steering was pulled hard in a tight turn and the arm contacted the #4220 type axle.
