squared 7 #1 Posted September 1, 2022 I got this tractor free. It obviously needs a lot of work. I cannot find a tag or stamp in frame to identify model to start restoration. Any help would be appreciated. 2
SylvanLakeWH 25,602 #2 Posted September 1, 2022 Not an expert, but many will be along shortly to help you out… Looks like a bit of this and a bit of that… older guts, newer fender pan, duallys…
rjg854 11,387 #3 Posted September 1, 2022 yes, definitely a little bit of dis and a little bit of dat. Basics look like it started life in the 60's.
953 nut 55,324 #4 Posted September 1, 2022 There may be a model number and serial number tag riveted to the steering tower just below the dash. My guess is an 855/1055 or 856/1056 being a short frame . Parts for the mid sixties Wheel Horses are very interchangeable, in fact some parts from '70s, '80s and '90s will bolt right up with little or no modification. Here is a picture of a 1055.
ri702bill 8,347 #5 Posted September 1, 2022 Welcome - interesting "Frankenhorse" you have there - particularly the hammerhead mufflers!
rmaynard 15,516 #6 Posted September 1, 2022 (edited) I think that 1968 was the last year for stirrup-style foot rests. It's a 4 speed. Shifter is straight up. Tunnel has an angled cover. Rear fender is hinged at the back with a slide lock on the left side. Engine/gas tank is obviously a replacement. My guess (without further evidence) is maybe an 856, 857, Commando 8 or something in that date range. Edited September 1, 2022 by rmaynard
squonk 41,158 #7 Posted September 1, 2022 Has a Eee-nuke exhaust. Reminds me of somethin @Pullstart would have patented in his "childhood!" 1

Handy Don 12,237 #9 Posted September 1, 2022 Welcome to the Forum. As noted by others, this tractor has some "work done" on it but if the engine (probably a Briggs & Stratton transplant) and trans are usable, you have a great starting point! I suspect the model/serial tag has been painted over where the red arrow is pointing.
