I have a 1968 Commando 8 and the tiller I got a 141" belt it is a little long I have 7 -1252 model and serial is 145272 for tiller not sure if it will even work on my tractor . I have it close. My pto drive petal was coming back and binding the belt on foo rest so I added another pulley under and forward of petal foot rest. And I took double pulley off mower deck and installed where the normally go so I think if I put a pulley out front on frame of it should  work better it works but under load it stops tiller.

I recall correctly 141" is for twin cylinder engines and 139" is for the single cylinder engine.  Shown is one of two mid idler styles which is what I use with a single cylinder engine

Is the Commando 8 not a medium frame 43-1/2" wheelbase tractor?

I don't know if the belt may need to be shorter still.

A tiller is not listed for the Commando 8 most likely because it does not have the low range in the transmission to slow down the ground speed.

As with mower decks, the V-BELT for the tiller is in the TILLER schematics.  Your tiller model 7-1252 is an older model and the OEM drive belt for it is #1599.  This belt is 139"L x 0.5"W.

This one is used with the manual or electic pto clutch. The belt goes straight up from the large idler pulley to the front of the pto pulley and then down to the flat idler and back to the tiller.

Mid-tach-O-Matich hitch with Teller IDLER PULLEY ASSY installed.  There are 3 or 4 variants to the Idler Pulley Assy, but they all attach in the same way.

@daveoman1966  nice picture  / description lay out , only thing  I  would change / upgrade is the  pulley bearings , you cannot believe how easily those pulleys work  / spin up with a bearing / lubricant change . once I  made the change over , did that on , each / every belt driven pulley I  have , also detailed in the  pto lever rod function , smooth / easy / quiet  pete
