Brian1045 28 #1 Posted July 11, 2009 I'm going to give up on trying to find a 3 pronged ignition switch. What 2 prongs will I not use by switching over to the newer universal 5 pronged switches. Or better yet....since they are labeled differently what letters or tabs are the same on the 2 switches? Is the "I" the same as the "M", "L"or "G" ?? 3 pronged is labeled B-S-I 5 pronged is labeled L-S-G-M-B
TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #2 Posted July 11, 2009 You can't directly substitute a newer 5 prong ignition switch for the old 3 prong switch. The old switch was rated at much higher amps so power from the battery could be sent directly through the switch to the starter motor. If you use a 5 prong switch you will also need to install a relay. (solenoid) Did you contact "Sarge" about information on the original style switches he had found? Brian1045 28 #3 Posted July 11, 2009 I'm glad you cleared that up. No wonder I couldn't get juice to the right spots. I thought I was losing it. I'll contact Sarge right away. I'm also watching one on ebay. Thanks TT. :thumbs2:
