Hiiii ... My name is Bear / EB.......

Recommended Posts

The body of this will look familiar to a few of you because I've already shared it through p.m. and text.

Then, this morning... I suddenly realized through a great and wondrous epiphany that I should share this with the entire group in a desperate search for solidly intellectual quantitative  moral support.

This all started yesterday afternoon when Ray @grinchsr indicated he would graciously and generously offer to drive all the way from Connecticut to Maine to help thin out my Herd because I have FIVE C160s.

Then I realized....

********

I do have 5 C160s, yes.  2 manual transmission Kohler powered, 2 manual transmission Tecumseh engines, 1 Kohler Automatic.

And... Ummmmm.... I forgot I also just got a C165 8 speed Black Hood.

And it gets worse...

I'm also lookin at getting another Tecumsehorse...

And.... Another purchase that BBT and I are in on... Is a  K341 Magnum powered machine.

Oh noooooo....

That's 8.

And there are others...

The Colossus project.

@JCM Jim's 417A two into one project.

Ariens S16H.

I MAY have a problem.

And you are looking for help from this group? As you stated Ray offered to take a couple off your hands, and I know others would be glad to find homes for those poor orphaned horses. Don't really see the problem.

Also, if you’re concerned about Horse to BBT/bear ratios, just know that I’m starting to feel lost with only about 25 here at home.  That 30 number really felt comfortable

Progress on the new building has been good considering the state of the industry up here.

To get the above mentioned things up to date...

No plumbing, ever.

No electricity though there likely will be later.

Windows - 6 or 8. All upstairs for now. More added in the 1st floor later.

Trusses ordered. ETA 3 to 4 weeks.

1 x 10 or 1 x 12  T & G D3S pine siding is being delivered in a week or two so we can get it pre-painted here.

Approximate building start date 9/15 - 9/20 -ish.

Correct, and I stand by that commitment. I will take one (or three or four) in this case for the team!

Eb... just think of this. I live in the city. I never have any need to put any of my tractors to work. I have a small city lot,, I don't even mow with my Horses. Right now I have 3 I keep in my garage. You on the other hand live in a beautiful wooded area and put your Horses to work. Either plowing snow,  chipping wood, hauling wood, hauling stone... etc. So if I'm comfortable having 3, and I have had up to 5 at one time. You clearly can have 6 or 7 MORE with no problem at all.

Wow you must have some good local mill wood pricing up there. I’ve recently been checking for a project and that stuff is like gold down here. I’ve even checked some small mills in the East Texas piney woods and metal or Hartie cost less.

Well, Maine is the most heavily forested state in the nation and our nickname in the state motto system is, The Pine Tree State.

1x6 Hardie plank in my area can't be touched for less than about $1.50 a square foot.

The other kicker there is that fiber cement board MUST be installed over sheet goods like Advantech or Zip System and that adds a HUGE expense to a project.

Pricing on metal roofing to be used as siding and 1x10 or 1x12 pine varies quite a bit given the different options available but they both can be had somewhere between $0.90 and $2 + per square foot.

To be honest I wish the pine profits trickled backwards in the chain a bit because a lot of forestry companies are struggling.

The big difference between those two products is the substrate or attachment system required.

Sheet metal requires more purlins between the poles and also must be screwed into place very carefully as opposed to the tongue and groove pine which can be attached using a nail gun so it's exponentially less labor intensive per square foot.
