Pullstart 62,812 #1 Posted August 23, 2022 I picked this HY-2 kit up on trade last weekend. I’m just in the state of research. The pump control lever is stuck and will need taking apart. The 753 used a HY-3 kit - same pump, different rockshaft assembly - actually a LOT easier to install than a 502/552/702. getting the original lever and rockshaft removed is a true PIA on those - rates right up there wit removing overmolded steering wheels and rusted up hitch pivot pins. Did you get the ignition / starter switch relocation box with it ?? Lowell has the rebuild parts for the pump & cylinder - and the upgraded design centering spring. Pictures below are of the HY-2 I picked up - not one of my tractors. It has the 2 piece axle mount without the tiebar. I have the one like yours on the 854.... Mike'sHorseBarn 2,991 #11 Posted August 23, 2022 Get a rebuild kit from lowell and go to town on it! It wouldn't surprise me if the neutral return spring was broken inside and jamming things up. They're almost always broken. I have an Hy-2 setup on my 753 and I like it. Mine leaks like a sieve though no matter how many seals I put on it. Achto 27,516 #12 Posted August 23, 2022 (edited) @Pullstart Just remember that spool valve has a slight tapper to it. It has to push in to remove it, if you pull out on it you will damage it and it will be hard to get it to seal again. What ever you do, do not tap on the shaft to remove the pulley. Lane Ranger 10,947 #21 Posted October 17, 2022 (edited) Somewhere someone on this site might have an old bottle of Wheel Horse HY Oil #4822 that Wheel Horse HY Manuals and dealers used as “the oil” to place in the HY units. I do not think Wheelhorse used atf in the HY units. I believe it was more like 30 weight oil. I now use Lucas hydraulic fluid in mine but I actually think it is too thin. It tends to seap even on new seals etc on a unit. I have an old bottle of the Wheel Horse two cycle motor oil for snowblower’s. I attach a photo as I believe the Wheel Horse dealers used this same plastic bottle for HY fluid. I will also bet Wheel Horse was one of the first companies to use a plastic bottle for oil !
