cafoose 3,355 #1 Posted August 21, 2022 I got this Bearcat 73040 trimmer and the belt keeps jumping off after about two minutes of running. It's a pain to put it back on because I have to remove 7 bolts to get to it and reach inside a very small opening to feed it back on the pulleys. I took a straight edge and made sure the pulleys were aligned properly. The bearings are good and the belt is new and tight. What could be causing it? Ed Kennell 38,410 #2 Posted August 21, 2022 Is the belt width OK Chuck? Entire belt in the Vee? 1
cafoose 3,355 #3 Posted August 21, 2022 Yes entire belt is in the Vee. I ordered this from Amazon. Maybe I should have gotten a Kevlar belt? I may try and return it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E42CID2?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
Ed Kennell 38,410 #5 Posted August 21, 2022 Hard to believe the belt can get out of those pulleys. What's with the empty key slot in the one pic?

adsm08 2,156 #7 Posted August 21, 2022 Well, if my years in IT taught me anything relevant to this it's that if you leave that lower guard off that belt will never jump again. The principal being "The sooner you put it together, the sooner you have to take it back apart" and the corresponding real world application being that if you never bother to finish putting it together it somehow stays fixed.

oldlineman 1,482 #11 Posted August 22, 2022 Could you fashion some belt retainers similar to the ones on our horses at the engine pulley.

I'll see how that goes if not, I may try something like that. A search on the internet and I found nobody else that had that same problem with that machine
