Beefed up suburban!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi folks, brought this home with me today.  Going in, I already knew there were alot of unoriginal things done to the tractor. I got it as a fun project to try and fit a little diesel on.  So my questions are what kind of hubs and axle are these from?  They have been welded to the tranny.  I couldn't figure out why someone would do that till I found the welded crack under the tranny, maybe they were beefing it up? I dunno. Also, the front spindles and steering linkage!!! Whoa!!! Anywho, I knew it weren't original by any stretch, anybody have any insight on the parts? Thanks, mikespacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.png

Someone went to town on the trans. Probably made it bigger to add real bearings as the originals were just bronze bushings and most likely worn. If it works like it is then why fix it if it ain't broke.

The front spindles are home made to accept those trailer hubs.

It started out as a 1960 400 or 550

I admire the persons skillset that modified that tractor, possibly a former tank mechanic? That's a keeper! :bow-blue:

Looks like axles and tube ends off of a dana 20 groundsmaster axle welded to the side plates. If it works, run it. The front I still question :confusion-shrug:

Yes, I got it a year or so ago when I was doing some work on a motorcycle,  has a detachable ramp, pneumatic up/down,  takes up alot of space, but much nicer than working on the floor:)
