Yeah. I had it on a wooden bench... but I found out that it literally JUMPS up and down... so... more "cushion" was needed... :P

Uhhhh... well... I don't know which one I would use to do that... maybe the 800... :eusa-think:

Maybe that will be my "winter" project, Eric... :handgestures-thumbupright:

P.S. the power is back on here... after over 12 hours...

Normally I c-clamp them to the work bench... but today I didn't and... to be quite honest... I have no idea why...

I got a snorkel made yesterday. I bought this snorkel a long time ago, thinking I might use it on one of my other machines. I decided to go ahead and use it here... since I had it. It has one hell of a filter in that housing :P. It isn't totally unlikely that I may change to a performance filter at some point... but in the meantime... I think this turned out pretty darn good.

Pretty solid quality build here... I'm pretty happy with it.

Regulator should be here tomorrow... then I think that is it... besides maybe a new starter solenoid just for giggles...

Make sure you know what you've got with that solenoid before you wire it!  Some of them are NOT ground and voltage on the two small terminals!

image.png.be29ca14dddbfabe59a09a21a38b01e8.png

If that's the one you bought, just do not use the I terminal.

As opposed to this type:

But you probably already know this?

Yessir... that's it...

Should be the same as the solenoid on the 416-8, I think...

I don't.  Or, should I say that I would not take that for granted.

Check it out before using it!

You CAN use it provided you wire it correctly.

I think the AM430 may in fact have a FIFTH terminal on the rear, and I'm not sure what that is for.

The terminal on the back is ground instead of the mountinng tab. "I" terminal is the only one that won't be used in my case, as you suggested above since +power to coil is run through separate switch. :violin:

I thought that might be the case.

"Back in the day" that " I " terminal on the solenoid tripped up many a "grease monkey" that didn't understand electricity.

They would get a car in that would start when you turned the key to "START", but as soon as you let go of the key, the engine would die.

The purpose of that I terminal was to bypass the coil ballast resistor during starting for a hotter spark.

If that "R" in the scribble below failed open, the coil would get power only when the solenoid was engaged during starting.  Once you let go of the key, no more power to the coil, no spark, engine died.

I wish you would have told me that when I was working on my 416-8...  :laughing-rofl:

Someone told me that the "I" terminal was for ground... so that is what I hooked it up as. I'll bet you can guess what happened when I went to start it... :angry-extinguishflame: along with a good bit of :angry-cussingwhite:

I guess I must have stopped it and removed the ground wire before damage was done though... 'cause it still works... :banana-dance:

That's happened to LOTS of folks!  Because some solenoids DO use that for the ground return.

Hopefully all you did was blow the main fuse... or if not fused, melted the wire.

Pretty sure the solenoid went " BRRRAAAPPP " for a second or two.

BUT, as soon as you let go of the key it should have been OK after you remove that ground connection.

Yah... it melted a bit of wire... which was simply heat shrunk back to the way it was prior...

I have learned 1 thing about electricity...

NEVER hook up ANY grounds until you are 100% SURE that everything is connected properly... :bow-blue:

Although the 13.8 V on a tractor likely  won't,

The Tecumseh's servant brought it over to the barn so I could do some testing with the shop battery. @Evguy... this is the "other" ZT I told you about... :P

Got the regulator hooked up. Works like a charm.

I did see that. But the wire-wrapped terminal connectors were the first thing to catch my eye. Is there some history with that image? My first guess would be some location where power is being stolen from a distribution line using an ad hoc wiring setup. Makes one wonder if that setup was done while the feeds were hot. Two phase--220 or 440?

I believe that's somewhere in India.  As I recall, it's 440V.  That spark you see... if you look closely you can see a hand with a pair of wire cutters at the lower left.  I think he's 'adjusting' or 'replacing' the "fuse".
