Amaz'n ?

Yeah, I guess Tarzan must have caught the mail truck before it left the jungle... 'cause they were able to cancel the order.

I'm off to purchase the correct sensor...

@Heatingman... I think I am going to go with a '99 ABS wheel speed sensor off an F150... like the guy in the video did. What do you think?

By the way... my ignition module is... out for delivery today. I JUST ORDERED IT YESTERDAY!!!!!!!! :scared-eek:

I forgot to mention, I picked up a good bit of wiring and connectors yesterday, along with a switch for the ignition system.

I am most likely going to make some sort of mounting bracket on the engine for all of the new ignition electronics. This mounting location will have room for an added voltage regulator later on.

Yeppers... it should certainly rock and roll... especially now that everything internally is cleaned, oiled, and adjusted. :music-rockout:

I'mma haffa' finda carburetor though...

@oliver2-44... you wouldn't happen to have one laying around, would you? :confusion-confused:

If you only want a carburetor just to be able to hear it run you can use a Kohler carb. Connections will have to be modified to go on a tractor but they DO bolt up.

You know I could make that work...

Only K series carb I have is on the 341 though... :eusa-think:

On a different note, look what showed up today... (these part's people OVERNIGHTED it to me...) :music-rockout:

I've got to find that coil before it finds me! :hide:

If you're going to have to buy a carburetor anyway I probably would recommend getting one from a Kohler on purpose.

The Tecumseh carburetors are well known for being a bit past finicky.

Yessir, that's exactly what I am going to do. :happy-bouncyyellow:

I am going to wait to buy the carb until I get spark... (no reason to spend more $.$ to bring fuel into the equation 'till I know it will burn)... B)

I'm about 99.87% positive you'll get spark at some point. Just a matter of what you have to do to get there.

Hey, Eric, should I get a carb for a 301 K-series or a 341? Probably a 301...? :confusion-confused:

Interesting you'd ask that question.

I've been pondering the same question on my own Tecumseh which is a 16 horse but it's a fair amount smaller in cubic centimeters than a 16 Kohler engine so I figured on getting a carburetor for a 12 or 14. I have the carb off of another 12 here that I can use as a tester.

Yours being a 12-horse engine I would get a carb for a 10 horse or 12 horse Kohler engine.

I DO believe the carb for a 14 or 16 horse Kohler engine is going to be too big and the vacuum signal won't make you happy.

It's just flat fact that I've been through enough in my life that I don't say 100% about pretty much anything anymore.

I have encountered a tiny problem...

The coil I have is a 6 volt coil. :bitch:

So... I am considering a ballast resistor wired in before the coil hot wire to solve that problem. @Jeff-C175... you got any thoughts about that... besides the darn resistor getting so hot?

EDIT: talkin' 'bout 12-Volt, 6-ohm, 50-watt, aluminum resistor...

New Heavy Duty Electric 12 Volt To 6 Volt Reducer Resistor, For Fans ...

The reason I am even remotely interested in going this route is because I have the parts in stock in the shop. :music-rockout:

ballast resistors used on Farm tractors that have 6V coils with 12v systems... are only 2 ohms..

ballast resistor

First thing... that style of resistor typically relies on a 'heat sink' in order to meet it's wattage rating.  Is that a "DALE" brand? or a clone knock-off?

Do you already have the resistor 'in stock' also?

What's the resistance of the primary winding of the coil?

Need to do some Ohm's Law...

Did you already try it?

With the key on, points closed, engine not running,

What voltage do you measure between the primary posts of the coil?

What voltage do you measure across the resistor?

Uh... I don't have any of that information. This is just a bench engine... and the coil... I have no clue what it came off of... I think a big tractor...

Maybe I should just buy a 12 volt iggy coil... :eusa-think:

To be exact, I have 3 multimeters.

Having said that... I do have the the resistors in stock as well as the 6 volt coil. I don't know anything about the coil, it doesn't have any markings on it besides 6 volt. I have never used that 6 volt coil, just something I came across a while ago at the junkyard...

Nothing on this engine is hooked up at this point, (I don't know if you have had time to review this thread @Jeff-C175... but I am completely designing an ignition system for this Tecumseh engine).

I'm just trying to gather parts to complete this engine ignition system.

In that case, as Paul said, the resistor should be closer to 2 Ohms.

Wattage wise, I think 50 watts would be overkill.  25 W should be more than enough but you can always use a higher wattage part as long as there's room for it.

25 W may be overkill also, but better to err on the high side for reliability.
