Poke around on the YouTube's and you'll see that people have done some interesting things with those using modern parts. (I know it's not... but electrical stuff is not my cup of tea...) Basically my understanding is that, power is flowing through the sensor, (circuit gets completed when the trigger points pass the sensor)... that triggers the coil to fire. Okay, makes sense. BUT what I don't understand is what the HEI module does...? Don Edited August 23, 2022 by Snoopy11
ebinmaine 67,569 #30 Posted August 23, 2022 My understanding is that the module is sort of like the switch that actually turns the power on and off to the spark plug
Heatingman 971 #31 Posted August 24, 2022 That’s exactly what I did with that JD tractor that had that Tecumseh motor. Was over 10 years ago I think.

Well, if you'd be willing to supply website links to the parts I will need and help me figure out how to hook it all up, it would be GREATLY appreciated... I wonder where Mr. @Ed Stoller is? Snoopy11 5,714 #35 Posted August 24, 2022 Basically, I think once I know WHAT to buy, I can always figure out mounting solutions... etc... Don
Heatingman 971 #36 Posted August 24, 2022 (edited) @Snoopy11 here are the parts and a simple schematic. Dont need to be those exact brand parts but should look the same, and you can probably find some stuff at a junk yard. The HEI modules are usually tucked inside the distributor. Think its like 1990’s to early 2000’s tech. also maybe somewhere like rock auto or something has them cheaper. The HEI module needs to be mounted to a good ground, as thats what it switches to the ignition coil - the ground path. in the schematic, the yellow and black wires would go to the wheel speed sensor wires instead. And if you do end up doing this, make the wheel speed (pick up sensor) bracket adjustable, as its distance from the pins on the flywheel is what advances and retards the spark timing. Snoopy11 5,714 #38 Posted August 24, 2022 So, I just bought a Proform 66944C control module. I believe I have a coil around here somewhere although @peter lena may have to send out the search party to find me once I go looking for it... I am in the hunt for a speed sensor now. Only problem is... this engine is falling to other priorities here on the funny farm. Every day something new breaks around here... now it's the golf cart. I guess my parts will just sit in the back of the truck with the engine until I get caught up around here... Don

Snoopy11 5,714 #41 Posted August 24, 2022 All I have to say... is this Techy better fly.... or it is GOING to fly via my cannon up to Maine and BBT can take a sledgehammer to it @ebinmaine... Snoopy11 5,714 #42 Posted August 24, 2022 @The Gman... Gary... if I get this thing sparking... I may very well take you up on that carburetor offer sometime next month... unless someone here in the states is willing to dish over a Kohler carb for a Techy engine... Hopefully you can return that if need be or cancel the order. Let me find a 2 wire version.
