Panther416-8 341 #1 Posted August 20, 2022 Picked up a 44" snowblower today for my 416. Seems to be in pretty good shape with very little usage. The pulley turns the gear box and in turn the auger nice and smooth. I used the files that gwest provided below. It looks as though I am missing a spring. It appears there are three springs total. I have the one that goes to the tensioner pulley and one heavy looking loose spring (pics attached, appx 1.5" x 8") and not sure if that is the spring that helps support the weight of the blower or the one that attaches to the lift rod (see items 7 and 12 in Gear Case and Belt Assembly diagram). Also missing chute control rod that hooks up to the worm gear on the chute. The parts I'm really concerned about are the ones identified as parts 31 and 41 in the Auger Housing Assembly diagram (part 79-2530, Bracket-Bumper and 117552, Guard-Belt). Does anyone know where I could pick these up? The piece that slides over a post on the blower frame with a hole at the top for the chute control rod is there and the bracket that mounts to the left side tractor frame in front of the PTO is there. The long rod and bracket shown in the second picture I believe goes into the front attachamatic and connects to the proper hole of the lift lever under the tractor. I want to give the unit a cleaning, touch up some paint and give it the greasy Pete treatment at all of the proper points but I want to make sure I can procure those other parts before I put too much effort into it. I got the blower for a reasonable price I believe. Thanks
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,036 #2 Posted August 20, 2022 Correct year manual and info on one of the springs. Click on the picture in the link
Panther416-8 341 #3 Posted August 20, 2022 Thanks gwest! I see I can get the missing guard and anti-sway bracket from wheel horse parts and more.
wallfish 16,988 #4 Posted August 20, 2022 You can make a chute handle from bending 3/8 rod. Or go electric spin with a 12v motor and a double pole momentary switch
Panther416-8 341 #5 Posted August 21, 2022 Thanks again gwest but unfortunately the one spring description in the attached link above doesn't address the other two springs mentioned. In the correct year diagrams you provided for the Gear Case and Belt Assembly they are springs number 40 (part 110614) and number 50 (part 4629). If anyone can help identify which of these two I already have that would be great to know what it is that I need to track down. The loose spring I have measures about 1.5" in diameter x 8" long, see attached photos. I assume this to be either spring 40 or 50. Thanks wallfish for the tip about the chute rod/motor upgrade. Panther416-8 341 #6 Posted August 21, 2022 I see Wheel Horse Parts and More has spring part 4629 so maybe I can call Lowell or Joette tomorrow and see if they can give me dimensions of that part. I'm hoping that it is not the spring I already have as it seems 110614 is NLA.
