B 100 auto snaps into forward and reverse

I'm working on a new to me b 100 auto.  When I push or pull the leaver forwarded and reverse it snaps into motion. It does not go into either one smoothly.  It there an adjustment I can make to correct this.  Thanks in advance

Remove the cover below the dash and check the linkage. There is a plastic cam that wears out.

 

 

Also make sure the frame isn't cracked where the transmission is bolted to it

(1) You need to look at the side of the hoodstand...  there is a Lock Down TAB that is very often cracked or broken.  This condition allows for the eractic you've described.  (2)...cracked frame (3) broken or worn out Nylon Cam (5996) or (4) worn out concentric (5995).

Definitely cracked.   Can I  weld it back together or are replacement parts available????

This is a schematic of the motion control apparatus.  Item 55 is the Cam Pivot Rod part #7604.  IMHO...this weld usually breaks because the friction control parts (56-60) are FROZEN to this pivot rod. You MAY get lucky by re-welding the TAB... fingers crossed because this can be difficult to repair otherwise.  I was able to BRAZE one of these TABS...maybe you can too.

Wow.   Sooooo next question if I pull that rod out to try and repair it will all those springs and things fall out as well as pictured

Chances are they are a bit rusted together. Go slow and don't apply too much force while removing tension from the cone and spring. Lincoln, @A-Z Tractor can probably fix you up with a used shaft, give him a call https://a-ztractor.com/.

NO...  they don't just fall apart.  These are the parts..

Trying to upload a short video of the PIVOT ROD being stationery while other parts move.  I your parts move like this, the PIVOT ROD is NOT frozen and you MAY be able to re-weld without tear-down....  Otherwise, it is much more difficult to tear apart and fix/replace the pivot rod..

If you chose to weld it while in place, it looks like the rod needs to rotate forward.  It’d close the gap on the top and weld it in place.  The bottom is warped and bent so don’t worry about it’s gap.

I couldn't wait until tomorrow I got the broken shaft out and getting it repaired by a friend of mine that owns a machine shop.   I do however need a bushing.   Any where I can locate one. Item number 6-42
