It should be possible to push the tires off the bead, clean with wire brush, bead sealer and fill, right? I'm not at all looking forward to having to remove the tires... if that is needed.

Absolutely. No need to dismount.

You can always use soapy water to spot leaks!

Or a spray bottle of window cleaner.

Bead sealer will "glue" the tire to the rim - yes, it stops the bead leak, but makes tire removal a bear later. Had great success years ago using the green tire "slime" - break the bead and paint a coat on the tire bead and the bead area of the rim - both sides. Reinflate and wash off the excess. Future tire removal will not be an issue.

Rim corrosion - if the steel wheel is corroded at the bead, it will continue to be a problem. Tubes are the only solution for that...

I tried those fancy metal stems. What big PITA . Tires would go flat in a day and some times a week. Replaced with rubber stems haven't had a problem with leaks in 3 years.

I ordered bead sealer and tubes, depending on what direction I go....need them both in the shop either way.

In my experience the X-Tra Seal remains pliable and not too much of a problem.  It seems to be alcohol based and denatured alcohol cleans it up quite easily.

Bead sealer worked great for me.Just push the bead down and brush it in between bead n rim.
