900$... that's just flat out ridiculous for someone on a budget (i.e. someone who has no money).

I guess what I am trying to say... funny how talking points are argued.

Guy has a 520-8... but it isn't worth a 150$ part.

Same guy will pay 900$ for another 520-8...

Wouldn't it be a little cheaper to just fix the 520-8 that you have? :confusion-confused:

Maybe I am missing something... :eusa-think:

I agree that they aren’t for everyone, and I had one for a while too.  However, I made it work to obtain a Ride Away Senior and a Lever Steer for the stables in less than a year.  If you knew how much they cost, you’d poop a brick for sure.  It’s a pretty bold statement to just go out and say it’s not worth it though.  It’s a stout machine.  Can’t tell me you have less than that into your engines let alone your tractors that suit your fancy…

I don’t disagree with the situation at all.  Can’t agree though that the tractor for sale isn’t worth the asking price.

Yeah... here is the other side of the coin... I have seen 520H's that are listed for sale at $1,000+... that don't have mowing decks or any implements and are in pretty shoddy shape.

My opinion: just people trying to make money. Nothing wrong with that I guess... but you won't find me paying that or advising people with low budgets to pay that when there are other options out there. :P

People's valuations on these machines are sometimes different. We see that in a few threads like this.

I don't mind agreeing to disagree... this hobby is all in fun anyway. B)

I don't claim to be Kelly Red Book

BUT...

I offer my opinion based on what I personally see here in Indiana. I haven't ever had a 520-8... and if I have to pay a "G" to get it... I probably won't ever decide to add one to the herd. If I want go "give" someone a "G" I'll buy something with implements thank-you very much. With that said... TJ can take your advice if he wishes... :happy-bouncyyellow:

This conversation reminds me of a machine that a farm machinery place had for sale close to where I live. It had a 60 inch mowing deck... beautiful machine, 8 speed, etc... had it listed for 1,200. It stayed for sale... for. a. long.... long.........long time.

Guess what it actually ended up selling for...?

600$...

When it sold, I told the owner of the farm machinery place "I told you so"

Cummins shows in stock, as well as several dozen other sources.

Just Google the part number and select a vendor according to price and availability, finding parts for three decades old tractors takes just a little effort.

1) Feeling the exhaust proves it’s cold.

2) Flip flops.

Sounds like a winner!

I think it’s a huge mistake…here’s my reasons.
You don’t seem like your ready for a complex machine such as a 520. It has much more wiring and electronic parts than say a C-120 8 speed.
I say that because you already have a 520 and some electronic part quit and you’ve just given up and are simply searching out another 520 rather than deal with the one you have.

There’s two things you should do.

1/ Figure out what ya need to do to get YOUR 520 running first.
2/ Pick a simpler machine to be your next one (if you absolutely have to have a second machine) such as what I mentioned above. Get a nice simple C series like from the 73-77 years.
A dozen guys here have said “fix what ya got first” and have offered advise, but it seems like none of it has sunk in.
Tell me your a kid without out telling me your a kid  .
Of course, just my opinion and I fully expect you to dismiss all that I said.

Better off with a C series! I had a 520. I'm a mechanic/electrician and got tired of fixing it!

Test drive, test drive, test drive. Warm up that tranny! 2400 hours is quite a bit, and obvious regular maintenance is the only way I'd jump on it.

I understand @Sparky's point of view but I'm impressed by your tenacity and the way you dive into a project and invite us to help out. I have never had a 520, I prefer the older models, but with the help that can be found here I wouldn't be afraid to tackle one. You are learning by doing and that unfortunately is an uncommon thing these days. The fact that you aren't afraid to ask us old goats for help and keep us updated is commendable, not too many young men these days would do that.            :handgestures-thumbupright:
