Heatingman 971 #1 Posted August 16, 2022 Currently no lights on the tractor. But there is a place where a light assembly would have gone. looking for an aftermarket light I could fit there, or ones I can side mount to the hood. Preferably the lights would allow for the wiring to be totally hidden when the hood is closed. Any ideas, and links appreciated.
EB-80/8inPA 1,653 #2 Posted August 17, 2022 Depends to some extent on the tractor (unspecified), but I would suggest considering what front end implements you plan to use and work around those. For example, the single stage snowblower on my C160 blocks the factory headlights quite a bit.
Heatingman 971 #3 Posted August 17, 2022 Its a B80, only implement I plan to use is a snow plow. Which is mainly why I want the lights. Probably wont do any night mowing. but most likely will do night plowing Was looking at something like this to fit within the existing light opening (trimmed out) https://www.amazon.com/BUNKER-INDUST-Lights-Driving-Bumper/dp/B07GR7C6TF/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=16BIPQ2G8QEGG&keywords=flush+mount+12v+led+lights&qid=1660700336&sprefix=flush+mount+12%2Caps%2C110&sr=8-4 or something like this for mounting external https://www.google.com/search?q=ford+tractor+light&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari#piu=ps:12&oshopproduct=gid:12457204182148605139,mid:576462716894300070,oid:1553260513944715200,iid:15037018330818443391,pvt:hg&oshop=apv but this is for a full size tractor, and would probably look out of place on a garden tractor. But thats the style - where the wiring is routed within the mounting bolt. - just not sure if a smaller version is available
The Freightliner Guy 1,327 #4 Posted August 17, 2022 Yeah using the street lamps for night plowing isn’t the safest so headlights are a must
Heatingman 971 #5 Posted August 17, 2022 These might be about the right size for a side mount. https://www.amazon.com/SKTYANTS-Auxiliary-Passing-Housing-bracket/dp/B06X19TGND/ref=mp_s_a_1_15?crid=22U7I12ARIFUH&keywords=dietz+fog+light&qid=1660704036&sprefix=%2Caps%2C66&sr=8-
Blasterdad 2,692 #6 Posted August 17, 2022 (edited) Personally, I hate when when people drill holes through the sheet metal & bolt lights to the sides of the hood, to ME it ruins the lines of the tractor & just looks plain "ol ugly. If you can't find a factory headlight bucket & lens I would do this... Make a small metal plate to fit in the hood opening & mount 2 of these to it. They are super bright, they put the light pattern where you want it, & doesn't spoil the looks of the tractor. ( also keeps wires further away from the muffler ) Edited August 17, 2022 by Blasterdad typo
Rob R 966 #7 Posted August 17, 2022 To me the real reason you need lights on a machine is if you are going anywhere near or on the streets in front or around your house. Everyone is moving really fast and talking on their phones and you need the help you can get! In addition, when plowing I ALLWAYS add a magnetic yellow circling light to the hood of the tractor (added cigarette lighter outlets to all my tractors. Just saying still alive!!!!
peter lena 8,634 #8 Posted August 17, 2022 @Heatingman what ever light you come up with , suggest that you enhance and verify a solid ground to that , strongest point on horse is the battery cable to ground bolt next to battery , in the cowl area . don't just think you have a ground , use an alligator clip wire hook up to verify, it , pete

Lee1977 6,663 #11 Posted August 17, 2022 What tractor are you putting the lights on. Tractors that came from the fractor with out lights have a low amp charging system. The charging system may not keep the battery charged with some of the LED's.
Handy Don 12,233 #12 Posted August 17, 2022 Agree with all of the above. A WH on the road is not an expected encounter for a motorist so anything you can do to make it visible will help. Add to this that the WH operator is focused on plowing or blowing atop a noisy machine. Several members here have mounted yellow flashers or circling lights on a removable pole that extends above head height in addition to headlights, rear-facing lights, and tail lights.
Heatingman 971 #13 Posted August 17, 2022 Im not going to be plowing on the road, just my driveway. Tractor is a B-80 from the mid 70’s. I plan on using a low wattage requirement light. Found some 9 watt 12v lights used for residential outside lights that I could make a fixture for. Gonna take a trip to the home center and have a looksie. I like the amber strobe idea also.

Ends of driveways where they hit the street are the real danger areas. The plow in my street goes by at 25-30 mph and throws stuff all over the place and SUVs whose drivers assume that AWD entitles them to speed are even worse. Rant ends...
D_Mac 8,619 #15 Posted August 17, 2022 I had a yellow rotating light on my 857. I added a waterproof auxiliary plug and the light was magnet and held firm on the hood. You are able to take it on and off easily. I also added led lights on the 856. The holes were already drilled into the hood at some point in its life. I don't think the lights look bad at all. Got them for 15 bucks for the pair on fleabay. They fold in and out.. Look better then empty holes that's for sure. For what you need I would go with the cigarette plug magnetic yellow flasher.

Heatingman 971 #18 Posted August 19, 2022 Swung a deal with @Burnerman for an OEM light assembly off a tractor he recently picked up. Should see it in the next few weeks.

Pretty much all of the S/G tractors could deliver 15 amps once they hit 1500 RPM or so.
