DeepH2O 66 #1 Posted August 15, 2022 Just got done rebuilding my 8 speed trans thanks to @stevasaurus Now, I’m ready to go back together with the case. The repair manual states “ Install a new case gasket holding it in place with gasket sealer…..”. Now, if I’ve cleaned the sealing surface really good, do I still need sealer? If so, what do y’all recommend? Also, what about sealer on the Kohler M12s cylinder head metal gasket? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

pacer 3,169 #4 Posted August 15, 2022 Dont know if it exactly 'kosher' but I like to 'pat' a little film of oil on the bottom piece just for the simple reason that it helps keep that thin gasket kinda 'stuck' and not flopping around til i can get the bolts started. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

953 nut 55,222 #6 Posted August 15, 2022 I have used a glue stick on the four corners of the gasket to hold it in place. Check over both halves of the case to be sure the mating surfaces aren't scratched or have any dings in them but no sealer on the gasket surface. As for the head gasket no sealer there also but after a five minute break in run you should let it cool and retorque the head bolts. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
