Kohler to Kohler swap question

Recommended Posts

Can a Kohler 16 HP shaker plate engine be used as a direct swap for a non shaker?

I have a possibility on a swap for an 80-ish 16 HP to be temporarily used in 1974/75 tractors.

Anything I need to know?

If you use the shaker plate yes.

The oil pan is different on those engines

Ok thanks John.

Do the oil pans from other 16s or other Kohlers in general swap over?

Yes, you can switch oil pans. The cast blocks are the same

You can fit a shaker plate engine without the plate on a Frank-enstein!

Small base blocks as used for shaker mounts will not directly accept the bigger oil pans.  No heed to change anything just get some spacers and you may have to drill two new holes in the frame.  Put a Shaker mount K341 with the  small oil pan on an Electro12 frame.  No drive pulley Belt guard mods needed.  PTO worked also

@Snoopy11  just sayin , when I  did mine , took out line , made it over in fuel rated clear vinyl , removed the valve size  piece , used  dielectric grease , just a tiny swipe for easy refit , installed  valve with spring clamps , dark green color / size , perfect / easy installation , no leaks , fuel holds in plane site , quick starts ,small tweak , pete

WOW! I never knew that!

That would make it MUCH easier to get the fuel line off in the future. :)

Thanks @peter lena... yet another thing I have learned from you! :greetings-waveyellow:

@Snoopy11   thats in the super lube class of lubricants made for dissimilar , surfaces , like rubber to metal , vinyl to metal , used it a lot at PFIZER  with food grade make up ingredients , yes just a light swipe on the male end ,will make that a very easy swap , also very good on a fuel tank valve  swap out , and its a dielectric  too !  pete
