daveoman1966 3,752 #1 Posted August 12, 2022 3-jaw pullers will LIKELY break the engine V-pulley. This is the correct way to remove the V-Pulley, and ...in this case...a stuck Bearing Race. My Pneumatic Impact Wrench struggled some, but it did get the Race and Pulley off of the K301s Crankshaft ...without damage. In the video, I should have used my third hand to wedge the puller from spinning...but... 014.AVI 5 2

ri702bill 8,327 #3 Posted August 12, 2022 Good setup there Dave, glad to see the setscrew(s) removed - allows you to get some penetrating juice down to where it needs to be. I prefer to use a socket and breaker bar with the puller rather than the impact - you can actually feel the progress, or lack of it - easier on the puller threads too ... peter lena 8,634 #4 Posted August 12, 2022 @daveoman1966 , @ri702bill , my rust penetration , reference is just something that I regularly do , if you were to , remove any related allen screw , and just regularly give it a spray of lube , reinstall plug and let engine vibration and heat , pull in that lubricant , it totally changes removal . DON,T WAIT TILL YOU WANT IT , the penetrant will have it ready for you , over time . anything tractor mounted mounted , has a regular lubricant / rust run out process going on , never stuck in place . that buzzing engine vibration , is your easiest helper , also as usual , my reference is going against the grain , in a service area . when I look at a pulley / shaft fit there is a lubricant ring, right there . how do you think that pulley moves ? only a suggestion , pete

That is good advice, Pete.. but God only knows how long this tractor sat out in the weeds... Guess I failed to mention that I did pull the TWO set screws and soaked in FREE-ALL penetrant oil for a couple days beforehand. Evguy 556 #6 Posted August 26, 2022 While test fitting my pulley with a shaft sleeve I quickly tired of trying to remove it from the engine. While this probably wont budge a really stuck pulley, it has helped me a lot. I didn’t have a puller that would work so I built a slide hammer puller from pipe, old clutch disc, lead weight and exhaust clamp. One reason for this is I will need to remove pulley to service thrust bearing that will be between engine and pulley. It just bolts onto face of pulley with some longer 1/4 inch bolts.
peter lena 8,634 #7 Posted August 26, 2022 @Evguy like that set up , very basic , yet that solid stop weight inertia impact , you can almost sense its ability to get something moving , had a gear drive pump , behind a large tank , very tight spot , once we got it freed up , used a towmotor , 20 ft of nylon strapping to drag it out , to add to the fun , that was on a call in , back in the day , pete
Evguy 556 #8 Posted August 26, 2022 I got tired of prying and tapping edge, It worked and didn’t take long to put together.
