Followed above ^^ Drained the gas and oil and refilled.Threw a battery tender/starter on and sprayed the carb with engine starter! Started right up. D_Mac 8,618 #29 Posted August 17, 2022 (edited) Sounds pretty good. C series are tough to beat. For 30 bucks you got a great deal. Won't take much to get it looking a lot better. A good cleaning and degreasing and a rub down with some boiled linseed oil and it will look 25 years newer. Good luck with it. Ed Kennell 38,170 #30 Posted August 17, 2022 She sounds like a $400 tractor. In addition to all the normal maintenance stuff recommended above, I'll add two items. I was never a fan of the rubber mounted engines. I would replace the rubber with metal spacers or washers. The under the seat fuel tank can cause fuel delivery problems on start up. When the tractor sits, over time, the fuel will drain back into the tank and the fuel pump will lose it's prime. An easy fix is to install a marine primer bulb in line to prime the pump before starting. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

peter lena 8,625 #32 Posted August 17, 2022 @fitz , easy to drop the carb bowl , do that carefully , so you do not rip a gasket , have also run in a used engine in a separate gallon jug of heavily treated fuel , watch the color of your oil for changing , thats indicating cleaning / flushing , get hours on that oil , do hot oil changes , for a more thorough drainage . do a thorough baseline service , verify what works and doesn't , plan on a transmission drain , shift boot torn? , would indicate possible milky oil in trans . go at it thoroughly , aerosol spray lubricant , make the rust run out , lift up front axel off ground to grease it , grease out the top of axel spindle , 4 fittings , center axel swing point , 2 axel spindles , steering gear " fan " area . also get some penetrant into the choke and throttle cables . AGREE WITH @Ed Kennell on the possible fuel primer bulb ,or a fuel check valve , between fuel pump and carb . lots to look at and learn . ask questions , pete 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
