Recommended Posts

Newbie here. There's a nice 856 near my for sale and wondering if it can take a tiller attachment. Thanks

The ground speed of the 3-speed transmission is too fast for a tiller. That is why the early tractors had a speed reducer available for the tow-behind tillers.

That is why the 6 and 8 speed tractors are better suited for tilling - 1st in lo range is a crawl. Also, you only have an 8hp engine - mosy likely underpowered for tilling - a 12, 14, or 16 HP model would be better for the task.

A tiller will shove an little short frame tractor all over the place in hard ground. plus the small engine pully on them would over work the engine.

It’s not that you CAN’T do it, but it’s not easy.  There are surely better machines for the job.

Strap in, enjoy the ride!! Kind of like point & shoot, or Tiller Ro-de-o!!. "Hard ground" - say it like a Kennedy, it's "hahd" ground...!!:ROTF:

Kevin - I can imagine the change in the exhaust note once the tiller gets a good bite!! Plus, you have low range and 8HP and AG's with weights - the right selection of tilling accessories.

Don’t get me wrong… an 856 is an awesome worker!  Sounds like you just need to get this close one and keep looking around for more!  :handgestures-thumbupright:
