pfrederi 17,741 #12 Posted August 9, 2022 (edited) It is an H60 that someone converted to an external coil ignition system. Not something i have seen before and not sure how you do it. The fuse like things are diodes for the fixed charging system. Engine ID is stamped into the air shroud. be interesting to see how they wired the coil... I know what should be under the hood, but a 6hp tecumseh dosnt have a coil like that. Looks like a Lauson Tecumseh. I am with @pfrederi. I never seen an external coil set up like that. Howie 886 #18 Posted August 10, 2022 My opinion, they probably removed the coil from the magneto, left points in place. Ran a wire from th negative side of coil to points, hot wire from switch to other side of coil.I think this way it would fire the engine just like the Kohler setup would. Wild Bill in VA 1,452 #21 Posted August 10, 2022 Take a look under the hood stand and see if it is a L-157, a 1967 model. From the picture it looks like the belt guard does not have the indentation for the Lawn Ranger decal and 1967 was the last year model to do that. In 1968 the belt guard was smooth and blank. Joe Goff 1 #24 Posted August 24, 2022 (edited) Your engine is a Tecumseh H-60 with electric start & pull rope, 6 HP. The wiring you show on the side is the diodes & fuse for the charging system. Last time I was looking at a magneto coil for a Tecumseh they were easy to find and not too expensive.
