This sounds like the exact same problem you had a couple of months ago. Are the pulleys the stock ones ?

also i appreciate you and @Snoopy11 constant support as i have a couple tractors and they are always giving me troubles and i don’t want to give up on them but yes this is the same tractor that was before the engine went on it now the engine is good but i’m still having this belt issue

But are they the stock width? I seem to remember you had a pulley for a 5/8" belt on the engine and were running a 1/2" belt. You never told us if changing the pulley to the proper width cured it. How bout some pictures of your current kerfuffle? This sounds like the same tractor you were working on before.

Did you ever change that engine pulley?

yes i’m running a half inch pulley on the engine now and i believe the transmission pulley is a 1/2 aswell the belt is 1/2 but i belive it has somthing to do with the guard as it runs fine without it on

Slack in the idlers? Maybe not routed correctly does the cover have the belt tabs on it? Clutch adjustment needs more tension?  (I don't have a geared tractor I have hydrostatic atm)

Non stock engine and engine pulley. Belt sitting deep in that pulley and bottoming out. Not enough oomph  ( mechanical advantage ) from the engine end to move the tractor up hills. Case closed .

:confusion-confused:          Could be the arm on the idler pulley is catching in the belt guard not allowing it to make its full swing.

Probably the way the guard is mounted on the non-stock engine. It's amazing how a story evolves from an 857 with an issue to one where it had modifications. Never get the whole story right off the get go. Belt has line up issues as well.

Try rotating the tab on your clutch idler forward so it grabs the belt when pressed but clears when it’s back.  It looks to me like the engine is too far back too, so the belt guard isn’t as effective as a clutch.  What is the measurement from the frame vertical to the engine crankshaft?

ok.  Measure this way (purple).  When mounting the new engine, for everything to work the best, the replacement crank needs to be in the same position height wise and length wise… then find a belt to fit.  It looks like your belt is too long, allowing the idler to stop before it creates tension.

Also, using a square, measure from a known location (hole in the frame, mounting point of the sheet metal, etc.) to the crank in a horizontal direction.  These two measurements should be exact as possible to the original engine.

Take a picture of where you measure from on the orange measurement and I’ll compare to a stock 857.
