8ntruck 7,006 #30 Posted August 4, 2022 Ok. Is it some sort of work piece holder/positioner? Does the hook work in conjunction with the oval stand off and turnkey thing?

Hint—- notice similarity of piece containing “hook” to another part?
8ntruck 7,006 #32 Posted August 4, 2022 The hook kind of looks like the leftover from cutting out a saw handle. The oval fittings on the back kind of look like the hand hole in a saw handle. A fixture to aid the manufacture of a saw handle, perhaps?

Got to take piece and imagine where it goes . Remember “conveniently cosmetic” comment. Hint — end grain, adjustment …..

If you don't have a "SOOTING PLANE" (which I don't) the device would allow you push a plane on the shooting board with greater ease and control than using the method shown here. formariz 11,987 #42 Posted August 4, 2022 Correct. It is conveniently adapted to existing plane’s handle without modifying it to allow easy use of it as a shooting plane . Without it , plane is hard and awkward to hold properly. The tilting of handle towards board helps putting pressure in the right direction., 6
