Mowernut 4 #1 Posted August 1, 2022 Hello All, Ever since I was a little kid (I am a big kid now) I have loved All Kinds of Riding Mowers! My first one cost me $20 & required a rope to start, then for me to run along side of it & jump on! I just bought my first WH / Toro... First, Back in the day, the Toro was a serious brand, as Wheel Horse was too? I see the model # as 72102 but when searching the internet, can not seem to find anything on this one (as seen in photo) but all different generations & styles? When they merged, did that hurt or help the brand? Did it lessen or strengthen the provenance? I bought this Model# 72102 mower with the snow blower & snow cab but no deck.. It all works & is in nice shape. I am however a bit perplexed about the lift for the blower assembly. It actuates BUT, is not lifting any higher than 1/8" to 1/4". The resivour is full & I can't find any leaks. I am a retired Body & Frame Tech & very mechanically inclined... Any reference material & /or advice would be greatly appreciated!! Pullstart 62,852 #11 Posted August 2, 2022 @Mowernut! That is a very capable lawn tractor, but it’s not quite as heavy duty as a garden tractor. Most of Wheel Horse’s line were garden tractors with horizontal shaft engines, heavy duty frames, cast iron transmissions and front ends… but that doesn’t mean yours is inferior… just different. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
peter lena 8,625 #12 Posted August 2, 2022 @Mowernut welcome, not familiar with your model , but have that blower, former body/ frame tech , should be easy , @gwest_ca file reference should help , basically your lift point is probably on the lowest setting , related mounting holes , shortening lift bar point will give you more lift . also notice typical rusting at blower chute base area . you are lucky to have the gear screw swivel on that , much better than the cable . get the aerosol lubrication giong , spray / look for effect ,that auger drive chain is probably solid with rust , and sloppy in adjustment, soaking lubrication . plastic snow slider , for kids , makes a great slide gasket at that chute base , with silicone spray , swings like magic. , 2 large adjustable wrenches , on top of each other , moving in opposite directions , easily takes out auger edge bends , need more info ? just ask , pete 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Regards, Chris Kennedy"Mower One Thing I will say is Change the Transmission fluid In the K61 or Hydro-Gear Transmission, it is one thing I have always seen neglected On these Tractors These tractors were Marketed as Yard Tractors. Toro did produce a tiller for Them and electric Over Hydraulic Lift system, which Your tractor should have. They were Not meant for sleeve Hitch(clevis Hitch) work. The K61 Transmission was Used In the Deere LX100 series Lawn Tractors. They were Toro's Idea to have a Better Mowing Tractor and geared Towards The Rest of the Market's Push towards an easier to Mount Tractor and to Have Better ergonomics IE a Narrow Turn radius over the 300,400 & 500 series tractors They were replaced By the 4XT series The Tractor was also sold Under the Ford-New Holland and New Holland Labels as the LS series Yard Tractors . But not meant to plow the Back 40 or do any loader work The K61s were decent transmissions, although not as stout as the K71/72s found in the GT2XX, 3XX, and some LX2XX. One issue I have recently discovered is that the hydo lift doesn't bring the snow blower up any higher than 1/4" at best! I have the blower off right now and am about to investigate.... However, before I do I felt it might be wise to ask you guys what is the lift hight /travel supposed to be? Any pointers on what should be addressed to correct it would also be helpful.
