Sundstrand reverse issue

Recommended Posts

Wheelhorse#1

Having a issue with a 90-2019 hydro. It’s going slow in reverse, sometimes on a  incline it will just about stop altogether unless I go forward then reverse again, give more throttle it will go but slow.
There is a small leak on the pump seal, will leakq out a couple drop's on the shop floor when sitting over night.Could this be possibly be part of the problem ?

I checked the fluid level and have, in the past serviced it .

I should mention that in forward there is no issue at all, very strong all the way through.
Ideas ?
thx

Sounds like your reverse acceleration spring is in need of replacement. I think @wheelhorseman sells them. https://wheelhorsepartsandmore.com/

I think that is not the original hydro.  Looks like 1973 12 Autos came in 2 versions. 1-0460 which had a hydro gear model 90-2046 and 1-0465 (yours) which had a piston to piston hydro model 90-1136.  Looking through all years WH I don't see WH ever used a model 90-2019.

Well that explains my confusion, doesn’t take much 🤷‍♂️

Possibly a earlier model sunstrand.Looks like these pumps had many applications so who knows. This one may be part Cub Cadet  😆

Ill go ahead and pull those springs out on the reverse  and have a look see.

Also

Someone at some point removed the parking pawl. Now there’s just a plug there. That can’t be good.

The reverse acceleration valve is the one at the front of the transmission      :confusion-shrug:   The forward on is at the rear, go figure.

Looking it over last night seems as though some of the Allen set screws will be difficult to break loose.I’m sure no one has been in there for yrs.

I think for now I’ll just focus on the Reverse acceleration valve ,maybe try to pull and do a complete refurb this winter.

As the old saying goes…If it ain’t broke !
