DeepH2O 66 #1 Posted August 1, 2022 So, after some investigation, I found that I needed the 111199 bearings instead of the 1533. I noticed on Lowell’s website, under description of the 1533 it says to take the black cover off them. Under description of 111199, it doesn’t say to remove it. I’m guessing that you’d want cover off for same reason as he explains under 1533: “NOTE: Before installing remove and discard the black seals by popping them off, remove the grease by wiping it off. Removing the black seals and grease will allow the oil to flow through the bearing and reach the outer needle bearing.” Does anyone see a reason not to remove the cover? Might I ask what model Wheel Horse you plan to use these on and who told you a 1533 won't work. If they are for a 1984 or older Uni-drive manual transmission you need the 1533, later models use the 111199. WHX?? 48,833 #5 Posted August 1, 2022 This has always been a long standing dilemma. Logic would dictate to take the seals out to get oil to the outside however many of the trannies I have been in have what they call shielded bearings. A metal seal rather than a rubber or plastic. Just guessing a shielded bearing weeps some oil thru and WH used them to protect the bearings from transmission gear wear metal. Again just a theory. I had it ready to go back together before I went back to work, June 29. All but the axle bearings, they came in while I was at work. I just got home last Thursday.
