Possible 2 stage snowblower purchase

Hi folks,

A 2 stage snowblower has come up for sale not too far from me that I was thinking of getting my 416-8. It is currently part of a package deal with a 416H and mower deck but the guy is willing to sell separately. Attached are the pics he provided but I'm trying to tell if everything lools like it's there to be operational. I don't see the long handle that operates the chute or the piece that supports that long long rod back near er the operator.  Does it look like anything else is missing that I should ask about? I asked if there was a sticker with the part/equipment number on  it but he said he didn't see anything.  He says it is a 48 inch unit but I thought they were only up to 44 inches. He bought the tractor with mower and blower together but  never used the blower. Anything I should ask for specific pics/ close ups of?

Those critters are heavy. Prepare for a workout if you use the tractor for mowing too.

There will be 4 parts drawings, parts from the first 3 are usually removed and installed at changeover.

From the top you need to check for the following:

First drawing, numbers 31 thru 40

Second drawing, numbers 15 thru 18

Third drawing, numbers 1 thru 13

Fourth drawing, none

Thanks for the files and info guys. Unless I can get the owner to send a few more detailed photos of parts it looks like I will need to plan a trip with the above documents in hand to compare to what is there. As I mentioned above it looks like the hand crank and crank support are missing from the pics he sent as best I can tell. Hopefully all 3 pulleys are behind that guard as well as the guard bracket which may be on the tractor. Hour and 10 minutes away. I do use my 416 for mowing in the summer and hopefully for field plowing this fall and coming spring so hopefully it's not too much work to set up the blower each season and remove each spring. Not ready for another tractor yet, the Mrs wouldn't be too happy about that. I still have a new (last year) cub cadet with 50 inch deck and a Mahindra 4wd with 9 ft backhoe, 6 ft quick attach bucket, pallet forks and a 9ft dozer blade. Really would like a blower that I didn't have to walk behind.

Forth Pic looks like the tube, laying on top of unit, that holds the chute  adjusting rod. Adjusting rod should not be a game changer. Just an excuse to dicker. Easy to make out of 3/8 rod...

Gwest, I see in a different recent thread on a snowblower you mentioned a "flag" piece that was necessary.  I didn't see anything listed as a flag in the parts blow up in the docs you provided.  Did i miss something?

Thanks for pointing that out Roadapples. Hopefully all is there somewhere. I want to see if I can get him to measure the width to see if it is truly a 48 or a 44 incher.  44 would be sufficient for me.

Looking more in depth at the attachment procedure and figures I see the front quick attachment bracket is used by the snowblower. If that is the case this will probably be a game changer for me as I was planning on using the same winch that I use to lift my plow/dozer blade and that attaches in that front quick attach where the mower mule attaches. I want my wife to be able to use the snowblower and the manual lift with the lever would be a no go.

Yes, it attaches to the front attachamatic....

And I don't know of a 48"...

No you did not miss anything.

The single-stage snowthrowers use a tube and flag to make up the lift rod.

The lift rod can be seen sticking out the back in the 2nd photo.

The way these lift is odd. The lift rods are pushed forward which forces the unit up.

 

If you see a model and serial number there may be more correct manuals. The location of them moved around over the years.

Most likely visible when standing on the left side of the unit.

You would remove the blower to use a plow and vice-versa, not an issue.

Lynnmor, I most likely wouldn't be using the snowplow anymore if I had the snowblower but with the blower using the front attachment point on the tractor I wouldn't be able to use my winch to lift the blower as the winch and its bracket mount into the very same front attachment point. I can use the winch with my plow but not with a snowblower.

I thought you had a tractor with a hydraulic lift cylinder, if you only have manual lift be aware that the snowblower has an assist spring that should help.

I bought an original WH electric lift here on the forum. Hoping to install that this weekend.  That should help with the lifting of the blower should I get it.

Getting out the manual center rockshaft to put in the powered one can be a real interesting exercise.

Hope it goes easy for you, but I'd suggest getting out there with the penetrant NOW!

@Panther416-8  couple of details , on that 2 stage , look over every point for function and ease of movement, do not be afraid to overlubricate it , note small drive chain under cover , behind chute area , adjust that chain,  use chain lubricant , on that winch , penetrating oil soak that cable , looks dry and stiff . when a cable moves , it twists and flexes , OR IT SHOULD , if its lubricated it will pull the lubricant into itself . the chute base turning gear should also be detailed for lube and function . red paint on that , is in the perfect stage to give it a lubrication soak down , that paint will come right out , and also easily shed water , stop rust now , pete

Thanks for the tip Pete. As I'm ripping into the tractor for the electric lift installation I see that the steering gear (fan shape) is bone dry. I imagine that should have some sort of grease on it.

Opinions vary on this. Greased and exposed it attracts dirt which can accelerate wear; dry it wears anyway! Dry lubes can dissipate depending on cleaning and storage practices.

I grease mine (and don't miss the zerk that greases the steering shaft socket).

So I have the electric lift installed now and functioning perfectly.  I'm probably going to drive our and look at the snowblower. Definitely the hand crank is missing but the support piece for the crank is there. Also looks the rear bracket guard that goes with the snowblower is currently mounted on the tractor right in front of the PTO. What do you guys feel is a good offer on the unit assuming no other pieces are missing?
