leeave96 487 #1 Posted July 30, 2022 Over the years I’ve had trouble with the 90 degree fuel tank valve getting clogged, screen clogging and coming off, etc. Ultimately it seems that the 90 degree bend is the culprit. This is on a 520H. We clean the fuel tank, but still some residue remains or gets in on fuel fill. Probably some varnish in there too - to some extent. What would be great is a straight fitting, less the valve to fit in the grommet/tank that would let debri pass through to a fuel filter external to the fuel tank. Anyone done this? Thoughts? kpinnc 12,082 #3 Posted July 30, 2022 What I've seen more often than not is the fuel level sensor is where most rust and trash come from. Also, all newer replacement valves do not have the filter screen anymore. An inline filter works fine, and lets you see any filtered particulates. 3 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

The bottom line is we get occasional debris in our fuel tanks on filling and sometimes some varnish - it just happens. I’ve had trouble with these 90 degree valves for over 25 years of Wheelhorse ownership and longer with others. As you know, it’s a lot easier to change/service a fuel filter external to the fuel tank than pulling the tank. peter lena 8,634 #8 Posted July 30, 2022 @leeave96 always add a larger filter , under seat area first on my fuel runs , then a smaller on closer to engine . also replace the tank grommet to valve , use a dielectric grease for easy installation , that grease is made for dissimilar connections so it adapts easily. all my tank valves are 90, deg with no issues , pete Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
