Ed Kennell 38,170 #151 Posted November 18, 2022 Last day to hunt with the stick and string. This guy showed up last year on the last hour. Can I do it again? 1 2
Pullstart 62,851 #152 Posted November 18, 2022 This is what I sent Uncle Jim. not the best service here… but I took some video I’ll try to get put up. “Have CindAaaayyyyy look up Mark Pierce on the Facebook machine. Hunting in Shelbina, MO. Robbie Adams from the Swamp People is in our lodge. He’s here until he kills. Might miss a TV shoot in Kentucky if he has to wait until Tuesday when season ends. $1,000 fine for shooting less than 150” antler. Robbie brought a 7’ gator to smoke tomorrow and a shrimp and crab boil tonight… “ Saw a couple little ones last night, three bald eagles, etc. awesome place, about 1/2 mile walk to my big huge tall box blind. It’s supposed to be super cold and super windy today. Apparently the windier here, the more comfortable the big deer are to move! Odd! Oh that crab! Awesome stuff, we ate the claws and everything! Tasty! We had good south gumbo too, did you know they pour it over ‘tater salad? 1

He has good length in the G2 and G3s, but it almost requires G4s to total up to 150 inches., unless the main beams are really thick. The circumference measurements really add up quick. Does the outfitter use total gross score or the Boon and Crocket deduction method? Total gross may get close to the 150. Here's my 114 2/8" nine point. And my 136 7/8" 10 point 22" wide The G2s were unusally short, but they would have needed to be 7 inches longer to make the 150"s. I'd say 3.5- 4.5 years old, hundred eighty pounds neighborhood field dressed. I've taken nearly one hundred deer in my lifetime, I'm a meat hunter and will take what I legally can. I've taken seven or eight in that class. The quality of the version starts now, keep it clean and cold, I Always hose mine out as soon as I get home too cool it down. Looks like it's cold enough not to worry about that. Good job, congratulations!!
Darb1964 1,042 #158 Posted November 18, 2022 I took this little buck opening day in CT. Firearms season this year. The version is what I'm after, this one will be very good. I've yet to get out in my home state of MA. That's about to change in the next week or so. The archery season has one week left in MA. And that has always been my favorite season, I have to use a cross bow these days and I just don't like that but the version is what I'm after. I spent the night after taking this guy in the ER with a kidney stone, now that that has passed I'm resting up some so I can get back after them. 3

Good job, congratulations!! I agree that he is big enough, but I was hunting on a leased property and part of the agreement is 150” or bigger. Smaller by enough and we get a $1,000 fine. Oops. I agree though Darb, this won’t taste near as good as a 2.5 year old or even a doe. We have plenty of hunting left in MI when we get home next week. For now, I’ll see if I can go hunt public land around here, or if I’m just done. I’ll respect the lodge owner’s decision.

We came up with 126”, measuring with a soft tape. Can’t get to 150 no matter how you try. I’m still excited!

I'm not an expert but I don't see that deer getting much more inches in the future. You did him a favor, 150 is huge. I'm not into that type of stuff, not against it, just not my thing.

I did, but I got excited. This is my 8th deer ever and I’m honored to be taking him home It’s about 4 degrees with the windchill. I’m in the lodge, kickin’ back, watching Buckmasters on the Outdoor Channel, enjoying a coffee with some Sugarlands Sip Shine. Life is good! 2 2
Pullstart 62,851 #165 Posted November 18, 2022 (edited) Mr. Pierce is quite the gentleman. He is going to place me where I can take a doe as well! @WHX?? had asked if this is guided. He has 30+ spots to place 10 people on a week long hunt without too much pressure on the deer. He has you drive (follow him) to the spots and shows you how to get into the blind. Nobody is in the blind with you. He realizes that I intend to use the meat more than the trophy and is going to allow me to continue! I was trying to be generous with my 139" estimate. I watched this buck for a couple months before bow season and studied it many evenings with binoculars. I was sure it would measure 135 to 140 and easily make the Pope and Young book. I was shocked when I got him on the ground and he only totaled 114 2/8"s. You have a great buck there Kevin, congratulations, and thank you for sharing the experience with us all. 1

Pullstart 62,851 #169 Posted November 19, 2022 I don’t normally enjoy energy drinks… just coffee. This guy here got me through the long drive day and no shut eye in the stand! Woah! Ryan and Brody drove down with us. They noticed my real nice hat and that I was the only one who made their bed yesterday. They are all kinds of superstitious today… making their beds and rubbing my hat! I’ve got my deer head prepped for travel, not being able to transport the brain over state lines. Today, I’ll be grinding meat and packaging it too. It’s fridged cold out there this morning, we’re not used to this much wind! I’m glad to be in a shed with a heater for processing. Then, I’ll be looking to go find me a doe.

After seven weeks of archery I was ready for a break. Massachusetts used to have a week or sometimes two between archery and shotgun season, most years Thanksgiving week is the best week for the rut. Back then archery was only three weeks and shotgun one week, black power three days. Now six weeks archery, two shotgun, black power until 12/31. Great season but can get like a job.
