I could be over or under thinking this You are correct IIFF none of the parts are worn out. Check the ends of the shaft where it would be riding in the bushings to make sure that it still measures at or close to stock size which I think is 3/4? If you already have a warrant out main shaft there's no point in disassembly and rewelding.
