I have a seat that @davem1111 gave me... it isn't in absolutely horrible shape... but it could use a seat cover...

I could include the seat bracket as well.

I can get some pictures of it if you are interested?

Don

That'd be awesome!

Not the color I was hoping for....

That's what the fluid in my 416-8 looked like.  Rubber shifter boot must have been rotten for years, and the P.O. had left it outside a lot obviously.  Looks like you were able to free up the drain plug, which is more than I can say for myself.  I took the whole trans off and turn it upside down to drain. Flushed twice, new oil, new shifter boot. Repainted while off.   As long as a bunch of metal shavings didn't come out also, you should be fine. :D

Ok, I have flushed the transmission 2x with diesel. Each time color was lighter and no signs of debris. I will flush 2x tomorrow. I do have a question, once flushed, do I need to let the residual diesel evap? Is a little diesel ok with new oil? Should I fill with oil, drain, then refill again? Also, is this Travellers OK for the transmission?

In a 4 speed transmission you want 80-90 gear lube.

Handy Don

:text-yeahthat:

This is important.

Read the manual. Follow it. Pretty much any 80-90 weight gear lube is fine. Auto Trans Fluid is NOT fine.

I hope you've been lifting the front of the tractor (if safe, as much as 24") to help empty the transmission. There is a "hump" across the bottom in the middle that lets a pool collect in front of it.

A bit of residual diesel will harm nothing.

I did read 80-90 gear lube, just was unaware if this equated to that. Thank you!

I have been lifting the front, I noticed the hump when I was looking over everything. Thank you again!

Hydraulic fluid in a universal form is probably pretty thin. There really should be some sort of designation on that bottle somewhere and you'll likely find it's around 10w or 20w.

Is it OK to drive and shift through gears with the diesel in there to aid in the cleaning process?

If you get bored, stop up to my place. I've ONLY got three tractors that could use this type of attention.

Course now that it's all oiled up, you can't drive around wearing your "Sunday go to meetin' clothes" any more 'til you get a real seat.
