I was thinking of maybe preserving the patina!!

This 953 has been in my herd for about twenty years, the only thing I have done to preserve the patina is leave it out in the rain occasionally.

There isn't any RED on it except the engine, guess Kohler used better paint than :wh:.      :ychain:

Looks like that Tecumseh H60 may be from a snow blower.  Starter is 110 Volt, not 12 volt.   Block should be the same, but you might want to change the starter motor;  or stay with the 110 volt plug-in if you get tired of the pull start.   I did that with a  WH Lawn Ranger.

WELCOME TO  RED SQUARE.

Funny thing about those starter motors - the motor itself is actually a 12 VDC brush motor, the push button box is a 120 VAC to 12 VDC rectifier. Does not matter - snow blower engines usually have neither a battery nor a charging system ...

I say keep the patina, it can take time, but be improved. Go with the Kohler.....

So, that starter can be used on a 12vdc battery system.    The "Old Dog" is still learning.      :text-thankyouyellow:

As long as you get the polarity correct... not a big deal, as there are two "Fast-on"s connectors ...

Yup, Ed. Learned that from the owner of my local Stihl / Ariens store. I picked up a twin to my hand-me-down 1976 Ariens 24" 10000 series. It had the old bakelite rectifier box and a lot of it was broken out - was mummified under 3 or more wraps of electrical tape to the handlebar. Starter worked just fine unless the machine was wet - ZAP !! got bit every time! I knew these guys at the Ariens dealer changed out a Lot of electric starters - asked him if he had a "dead" one so I could switch out the box. He went in back and gave me the entire upgrade kit, with a roached motor for free. He keeps them around for starter drives and fasteners. No more getting bit ... Gave him $10 to buy coffee for the guys... was worth it to me ....

Waiting on my points and condenser to come this afternoon. That will help in deciding if I keep the Tecumseh or repower....

@The Freightliner Guy... :greetings-waveyellow:

I'm not saying this to you to be an A-hole... or rude in any way... but you have made 13... 1 sentence posts in this thread... :eusa-whistle:

Fair warning... the site moderators may very well not appreciate that... and you may get into some hot water if you continue. :eusa-think:

I just thought it was worthy to let you know... :bow-blue:

Many of us do try to keep our commentary in serious threads like this to helpful suggestions, and the like, just out of respect for the OP's thread, and etiquette... :)

I have a pic from the top, but its too large. Small hole from the front. Blades locked solid. It won't be anything I spend time on now, future project all in itself.

I second this motion - leave it out somewhere you walk by frequently, and spray it every few days till you're ready to tackle it.  I like PB Blaster.

Marvel Mystery Oil is another possibility for rust treatment.

By the way, please be careful with the rags you use to apply the  boiled linseed oil with.  A rag soaked with linseed oil will self combust if wadded up and left.  Does not take long, either.  I left one wadded up and sitting for about 15 minutes.  When I went back to apply more linseed oil to my work piece, it was uncomfortly hot to the touch.
