peter lena 8,589 #3 Posted July 24, 2022 @Jeff-C175 thought about that , suspended mount , holding a lot of that weight , ideally be able to get into those bearings for a re grease , hasn't been a wheel yet that has not been up ,greased , will let you know . since being in a drought stage , my initial lawn recovery , that was terrific , is in the light tan / brown phase. also thought more deck height , would help overall discharge spread . only use R/D decks . sure I will come up with something , that will get a " you can't do that " response , dr frankenhorse , aka .pete
skrusins 128 #4 Posted July 24, 2022 (edited) Pete,You have been busy. I've used 7in. plastic wheels for a couple years. I broke one making a turn with the deck down on concrete drive. They slide on grass without any problems. I also get 4in. cutting height. Thanks, Stan Edited July 24, 2022 by skrusins added a remark
peter lena 8,589 #5 Posted July 24, 2022 @skrusins was thinking about that , was trying to get a slick , no tread wheel to help in the inevitable mower deck side slide . typically if I use the driveway , I pick up the deck to top lift height , for less contact. that 4' cutting height is important , like my grass at a higher cut , since over seeding and regularly using aerators , my lawn has just solidly filled in with dense grass. these wheels are metal , so they should be stronger , if I can get some lucas chassis grease in them , should be good to go . thanks for the shout out , let you know how things work out , pete

We are going to have some supercells come through later this evening. Bad part about it is... we already had 2 trees go down last night from the drought... All the chainsaws and Wheel Horses got a workout with those... Don
clueless 2,976 #8 Posted July 24, 2022 Wheels would work okay their just not going to last near as long as the Wheel Horse wheels even with your Lucas grease and you may get another 1/2 to 3/4 inch higher cut.
skrusins 128 #9 Posted July 25, 2022 Pete, As I was looking at these wheels I noticed that they are the same as the ones on my McLane edger. Hope they last at least a little longer than 3 years like the plastic one did. I only broke it by making a sharp turn on rough concrete the other looks good. I did measure the blade height and it is 4in. Stan
skrusins 128 #10 Posted July 27, 2022 (edited) Put the wheels on and have about a 1/2 in.clearance in the raised position and the cutting height set all the way up. Thanks Pete Edited July 27, 2022 by skrusins
peter lena 8,589 #11 Posted July 27, 2022 @skrusins , got my wheels in , just did a hand / palm grease pull into those bearings , those bearings are size to size with rim hole size , easy simple push out . got some new wheel bolts , going to install now , should work , pete

peter lena 8,589 #13 Posted July 27, 2022 @Handy Don , @skrusins , just got in from my initial trial , and it really looks like the answer , definitely better deck discharge , had a good spot to test on uncut lawn , gave me the height I want and no grass trail at all , rather than burn my lawn , would rather , let it get to recovering height . typically always cut at highest setting , now thats higher . probably change over another deck to same 7" wheels. dr frankengrass , pete
Handy Don 12,174 #14 Posted July 28, 2022 Thanks for the update, @peter lena, My 7's came and I may even give them a spin on the RM-366 I'm in the midst of refurbing, if they have good clearance. Only issue is that the tread is not as wide as the stock 6" wheels so not as good weight distribution. We are in agreement, especially in hot weather, of keeping the grass longer.
peter lena 8,589 #15 Posted July 28, 2022 @Handy Don ordered another set , for my other deck , regularly rotate my 3 , for everything , did not find the width to be an issue , was just smooth easy rollin. pete
