wh500special 2,184 #6 Posted July 23, 2022 I’ve only had the first booster. The COVID vaccine study I’m in requested that I not get the second booster as they are still evaluating overall effectiveness of the initial rounds of shots. They of course said it’s up to me to decide what I want to do. I’m coming up on 24 months after shot #1 and they continue to gather weekly data from me. My enrollment in the study is scheduled to end at month 25 so I’m getting close to being done. They may offer to extend or alter treatment at that time. If I end up being done I’ll get a second booster. We had an aggressive flare up in our shop and office about two months ago. Came from out of the blue. Had two shop guys end up in the hospital for nearly a month but thankfully are recovering nicely. Neither had been vaccinated. Others just had runny noses. Me, nothing apparent. it’s still going. Treatment and understanding of what to do and what not to do has improved so much. Things are getting better! steve
953 nut 55,258 #7 Posted July 24, 2022 Tested positive a year and a half back (a Christmas Gift from the wife) my symptoms were nonexistent but my antibodies were extremely high. Got the two Moderna shots a couple months later with no side effects. Tested for antibodies a few weeks ago as part of my annual physical and they are still very good. Doctor suggested I hold off until the new booster comes out in the fall. If your doctor's office isn't ordering the antibody test for you ask them why. Hopefully you'll stay that way, but it's been fairly proven if you're vaccinated, your symptoms will be less of a problem. I've been vaccinated twice and boosted twice, and I haven't had the virus, I think a lot of the decisions are based on the area you live in, and the amount of people you come in contact with.
rmaynard 15,479 #9 Posted July 24, 2022 (edited) The wife and I have had all the boosters, and have remained Covid-free. My daughter-in-law has had all 4 shots and is presently down with Covid, Since we were all together recently, I am hoping that she was not carrying and spreading at that time. August 11, we are all going to Florida together for 8 days. If it does pass to us, we are hoping that it does it quickly so we can (hopefully) be healthy again in time to travel. Once again this is proof that nobody has a clue how it is passed, why it only picks certain people (vaccinated or not), and that nobody, I repeat nobody knows definitively how to prevent it. So, I am living life as normal. I am mask-free and don't intend to put one on. Edited January 28 by rmaynard
rmaynard 15,479 #10 Posted August 20, 2022 Well, I'm back from vacation. Spent 8 days in the hot Florida sun (Disney World) with temps in the mid 90's. I'll NEVER do that again. Met up with my son and his family. Also daughter-in-laws sister's family. Turns out the brother-in-law was COVID positive with no symptoms. We all went through the week and then on the plane ride home yesterday, I started to get a scratchy throat. After the drive home from the airport both my wife and I tested. Guess what? I'm positive she's not. Going to test again later today. So, having avoided this thing for 2-1/2 years, it finally got me. Here I sit trying to avoid contact with the wife. Nose running, sore throat, cough, and low grade fever (98.8) I am normally 97.7. If things don't get worse, I should be able go out into the world again in 5 days. formariz 11,987 #11 Posted August 20, 2022 We got our second booster a few days ago. So far neither one of us got the virus. We have to go overseas again this week , my in-laws had the virus and a bunch of other issues at the same time. Mother in law is not doing well. Hope we don’t get it there. rjg854 11,366 #12 Posted August 20, 2022 Went to my 50-year class reunion and guess what, I ended up with COVID but I'm over it now. Even with the wife in the house she never caught it.
rmaynard 15,479 #13 Posted August 28, 2022 (edited) Just a follow-up. I tested positive for Covid on 8/19. Started taking Paxlovid on 8/21. It's a 5 day regimine. Only had minor symptoms. The cough was the worse. The Paxlovid worked wonders for that. Wife never got it. Today I tested negative for the second day in a row. Back into the world. ohiofarmer 3,276 #14 Posted August 29, 2022 (edited) I never even tested until the latest round and we finally got our at home tests that were promised forever ago and we finally got some. A dear church lady died from unknown causes and i delivered a man casserole to the men in the family. I also went to the funeral where the pastor had a sore throat but a negative test. she reported this fact after we got a notification call that she tested positive upon her return home. i tested positive three days later and my wife three days after me. We both got it but used some non standard meds to treat it and got along OK. i sure wish that Monoclonal Antibodies were available to the common public like they used to be and so does my doctor. Funny thing that they got pulled from availability , but after that happened ,our governor and the VPOTUS got them after the rest of us could not. HMMMM... So I was vaccinated plus some helper meds that i researched. on my own. I suspect that I had the original, Delta, and the latest version. That first one was a bugger with some frightening moments.
