A new garage

Recommended Posts

Gregor

It has taken me over 2 years to get, but I finally got a quote on a new 24 X 26 garage, to match my existing garage. I ran out of space for any more tractors, so I quit buying them.  A new garage would solve that. :D My lot slopes.  A LOT . The new garage will require 8' poured walls, and footings, and a lot of fill. 24 X 26  garage. Insulated, sheated on the inside. Hanging heater. Electricity. Plumbing for a bathroom. ( my wife insisted ) 9 X 7 overhead door. 1 walk in door. Are you sitting down? 92 K  :scared-eek: I don't think there will be a new garage in my future anytime soon. :sad-pacing:

Given the condition of today's market over here in Maine that's actually a VERY GOOD quote.

Actually, a friend of mine has a 2 car garage sitting on blocks. My concrete was over half of the cost I think. I got the number over the phone. When I heard it, I didn't ask him to break it down.

I'd be looking around for different site work prices.

Do your 8-ft concrete walls get you a basement?

I realize codes vary a little state to state but why do you need 8 ft walls instead of 4 ft?

That is a serious amount of foundation - lot of cost just setting up the shuttering for concrete.

Cheaper to dig into the hill?

I build homes for a living & the price of material has tripled in the past couple of years to the point of being ridiculous.

Quote is pretty spot on for everything mentioned.

That is why I went this route, 20'x20' steel carport kit, $1200.00

You can get them fully enclosed with overhead doors for around $3000.00

You would still have to have the excavating & flatwork done but you would have what you want at a reasonable price.

I love mine.

Concrete work is out of sight. I've heard stories of average sized decks being quoted at 25-30K

No. That would be like my present garage, and another $15,600

Bring the garage up to street level. Along with my present garage.

I can't get any c;loser to the street. I would have to have a variance, just to go where I wanted to go.

It might be time to contact a realtor, your current place doesn't fit your lifestyle. Just my :twocents-twocents:

I wish I could do that.  The building inspector around here would never pass it.

They are designed to pass code, also an unoccupied detached structure, building inspector could care less.

If he did have a bee in his bonnet about something my lawyer has a whole bee's nest ready to fly directly into the county's mailbox. :ranting:
