Throttle cable

Recommended Posts

Jessro81

I have a 1977 c120 automatic that I’m looking for  a new throttle cable. I was wondering if anyone had a part number for a new one or if I should just maybe clean the old one out. It feel like it is getting stuck inside in line somewhere. Thanks

I like to remove the cable when it gets sticky, and hang it vertically. Dribble in some Marvel Mystery Oil down the wire into the sheath - let it migrate thru - takes several hours - and it smells like NECCO Wafers!!

@Jessro81  https://www.amazon.com/Super-Lube-12004-Lubricant-Translucent/dp/B00N77RY8O/ref=asc_df_B00N77RY8O?tag=bingshoppinga-.   mite find this at local H/W  store , or on line . made for that application , also lubricate related linkage /  levers , for smooth function. also add springs to the pulling close end of cable , note size and location.  have these on all my throttle / choke levers , small spring to pull back the throttle , choke also . with a lubricated cable , it works seamlessly , very easy . ever try to PUSH A CABLE ? as you attempt to get it set up , notice the spring help , very smooth /easy , pete

@Jessro81   when you lay out that new cable , make sure you secure it where  IT WANT,S TO BE ,  never hard twist or jam a cable  in place . even lubricate a new one , hang it vertically drip in penetrating oil or super lube oil , till it comes out the end. also lubricate every piece of linkage or levers , to insure the entire set up works smoothly . if you put the wrong twist on a cable it gets , hard to use quickly , move it around till its totally smooth. this is all basic stuff , , have any issues , just ask , pete

@peter lena thanks so much for you help. This is my first wheel horse I’ve ever missed with it’s actually my 13 year old son who loves tractors of all kinds. I’m just try to learn and to teach him as we go along. Thanks again
