They lock right up on compression and no matter how tight that SG belt is the SG stalls out. This is when we see smoke coming out of an orginal type 70 Amp ig switch. A sure sign to lay off on it. One has to lay off the switch and the motor rolls backwards a tad. Then you hit the key again and they pop off. None of my older engines (953 and 1055) have the ACR cam but the spark advance cam works well if the timing is right on the money. If it is too far advanced (gap to large) it kicks back. Mainly because that's what was in it. Hindsight being 20/20 I shoulda put in the ACR one. It may have meant dealing with tappet & valve length issues like Bob had but worth it? WHX?? 48,815 #33 Posted April 6, 2023 Interesting the 1054 I just picked up from @Shynon has a weird starting quirk. It rolls over very easy so obviously a ACR cam. Starts to run at very low rpm like it's still rolling on the SG but the start button is released. After about 10 seconds you can hear/feel the ACR flip and off she goes.
