C165 tire rubbing

Ok the right tire is rubbing on the inside. The hub is flush with the axle. The other side seems to be ok.  The tire size is 23-10.5-12
What could be wrong? Could the axle move sideways on the frame?  Can I move the hub out a bit? 
it was this way when I got it last year, just never used it much until now.

Is the tire mounted backwards on the rim?  The rim has an offset so if they put the tire on wrong it would sit closer and possibly rub like yours is. 
 

Moving the hub out a little would work.  But if it matches the other side I would think that’s not the issue.  
 

this is half the fun of getting a new “used” rig.  Sorting out all the “ what the heck did all the PO’s do to this thing” issues.

Looks to me like you may have the wrong rims.

Seems that your pics are of both sides, correct? If so comparing the space between the case and hub is quite a difference. The one hub seems to have less space between the case and hub and the other having about an inch space.... Been to long since I went into a tranny so I dont remember if the axle could move internally, but somehow it looks like yours may have?

Yes both sides. They measure the same from the housing. Everything looks like it should.

Does the gas tank support look ok? It looks like it is pushed down a bit.

The distance from the center hub plate to the inner edge of the rim is called "backset" and yours is too deep. I suspect those are not WH wheels.

 

There is no way to move the axle outward and it is correct to have the outer surface of the hub flush to the end of the axle.

Ok so best way to fix it would be spacers. I know some tractors you have to add spacers to run tire chains. 
or let it rub. Does not look like it is doing any damage other than the mark on the tire

Agree with Achto. Definitely not wheel horse wheels. Back space should be 1 3/8"....

This would be one way to fix the issue and nothing wrong with this idea. Other fix would be to find correct rims.

Tractor Data says the tire size should be 23-9.50-12.  It has 23-10.5-12.  Could the tire be too big?

Agreed. The "dish" is backwards on those wheels. Common on other brands, but not Wheel Horse. Should look more like thie pic below.

Best that I can see is my rims look like yours , just not as pretty

Most all WH rims have a 1-3/8 backset ...many other brands used 2-3/8.  Lay a straight edge across the rim measure down to the bolt holes...

Sure... they may 'look like', but if the backspace is greater, you can have issues such as you are experiencing.

 

Measure the backspace on your wheels.  This is a 'standard' WH wheel.

 

Tire is mounted and straight edge is not flush to the wheel rim as shown in second photo so you need to subtract that measurement from the first.

 

This is the BACK side of the wheel, not the front.

These measurements are not 'perfect' there may be a bit of flex in the straightedge I used (a broken tape measure), but it shows approximately the 1-3/8" backspace that the WH wheels have.

 

If you've got more than that, they aren't the correct wheels.

Loosen the hub set screws and slide them out 1/4"- 1/2", lock'm back down and be done with it.

Unless you're using it to move 20,000 lbs RV trailers or jumping like Evil Knevil it'll be fine. Highly doubtful you could damage anything even if you tried.

Simple way to solve a simple problem. Not necessarily the correct way of correct rims or correct tires but it corrects the problem. Change them when you need new tires

And they should be 25-30 ft-lbs of torque.  You won't achieve that with a combination wrench.  You'll need an 8 point socket and a ratchet handle.
