Grandfathers old GT-14 possibly tracked down

Good Luck and hope you can get them back.

I'd be honored if my grandson just went hunting for some of my stuff, let alone be able to actually find them and own them. He has absolutely 0 interest now but maybe one day. There's quite a few custom built things out there as I did some non wheel horse stuff too back in the day.

Good luck on your quest, got to get them back in the family. The one on the left is a 1969 and the one on the right is likely a 1970.

Grandfathers GT-14 tractor update

Folks I believe I have found my grandfathers tractors. Spoke to the man who purchased them from the auction and he has said the man who has them probably won’t sell them because a lot of people have tried buying them from him. I didn’t get his name or number but the man got my name and number, and is going to have him call me sometime

Fingers crossed that the man will call me and we can strike a deal to get them back into the family or at least keep tabs on them, and get updated photos of them besides the one I post of

If he has them, which everything is pointing to him having them. Then I will do my very best to get the two GT-14’s back into my Schrum family

When I saw the number I about dropped my phone because it was around the area from where the other man was. It made my entire day!

@Schrumgmc  good going on that !  only a suggestion , while you are figuring how and what to do , on a recovery on those 2  horses . that paint stage is begging for an  aerosol lubricant spray down on every painted surface, just that lube soaking into that paint will patina save it . the faded paint will turn a darker shade , indicating its in the paint , that oil soak is safe to leave , only needing to be rubbed down till dry to finish it, with a clean cloth . usually do that 2 time's , and finish with linseed oil rub down . that paint will look like a time capsule , perfect for older horses . and you barely had to do anything to get it , just an idea , pete

Be very careful with linseed oil.  Rags covered with will spontaneously combust.  A former coworker of mine accidentally burned his house down when he left rags covered with linseed oil on the floor of his garage.  If you used linseed oil leave the rags outside on a rock or stone wall away from your horse or anything else flammable until trash pickup day.  That let's the oil evaporate. If they do combust they won't hurt anything.

Handy Don

:text-yeahthat:

EMPHATICALLY

And not only for linseed oil, but for any rags used with volatile compounds.

And they DO indeed! This can not be repeated too often, most people are unaware of the danger!  :angry-fire:

I have witnessed it myself, once as a young fella after my Dad refinished some furniture (thankfully I saw the smoldering box and got it outdoors and threw it on the ground at which point it burst into flame), and once experimentally under controlled conditions about a decade ago. :angry-fire:

It does not take long either, sometimes as short as a half hour if they are wadded up and thrown into a cardboard box in warm weather.  Could be as much as a few hours depending on how confined they are.

As Linseed Oil dries it creates what is known as an EXOTHERMIC REACTION, which simply means that it creates heat as it dries.  If you confine that heat it can self-combust!

It doesn't need to get as hot as you might expect either. It can be in the low 100°F range.

@Schrumgmc  nothing exotic , basically aerosol penetrating oil , or marvel mystery oil , both available at walmart or local big box store , just something I  don't even think about not doing on neglected , dull paint , agree with others on the  disposal of a soaked rag . let mine hang over a pipe in the sun , dries out quickly , away from anything . my experience with that lubricant rub down , has been very good , simple / easy , and it works . was just thinking while you are planning on your , tractor recovery , your paint can be coming back on its own . pete
