When you pull the lever back the button should snap up to hold the lift lever in place. Maybe remove the rubber cap from the button and grab the shaft with a Vise Grip and see if it will pull up. If it will then work it up & down a few time to get it to move properly. Some lube will help the situation as well. Edited July 6, 2022 by Achto
Mona 3 #4 Posted July 6, 2022 The model is 416-8..I know it can be pushed because a guy is able to push it in. Just not me! Willy weakly! 😊 but I will try adding some type of lubes to it. I can move the lever, It just won't lock. The other day as I was mowing, i just thought about just holding on to the lever while mowing but then I thought. Nah!

Turn clock wise to raise the ride height of the deck, counter clock wise to lower the ride height of the deck. But when you pull all the way back on the lever it should still lock in place.

The lift lever should be full forward while mowing. The deck mowing height should be adjusted by the two wheels on the rear of the deck. The deck should only be locked in the up position for transport without the PTO engaged. Edited July 6, 2022 by Ed Kennell

Hi thanks , I don't have a knob for the adjustment. I wish I did! The lever does not lock into place unfortunately. Doesn't that button lock it once pushed in? When its fill forward it mows to low leaving my lawn too short. That Is why I want to raise it a notch. I was taught the lever is what I use to raise the height for that. Please note the deck leveling rod located at the center rear of the deck must also be adjusted so the front of the deck is 1/8" lower than the rear. for the deck to cut properly. Locate the manual for your deck in our manuals section and follow the operating and leveling procedure. Edited July 6, 2022 by Ed Kennell
squonk 41,104 #11 Posted July 6, 2022 If the trunion/chain eyebolt connection is too tight/ bent ect. It may cause the deck to hit the footboards too soon not allowing the lift lever to come back far enough to get to the lock position without bending the foot boards. That would also be a symptom of the button being very hard to push to release as there is way too much tension on it. I have seen this a lot on the 300-500 series tractors.

cafoose 3,355 #16 Posted July 6, 2022 Download this manual. It may not be exactly the same but the adjustment procedure should be the same.
SPINJIM 1,981 #17 Posted July 6, 2022 That button is only used to lock or release the deck in the FULL UP POSITION. It has no function controlling the mowing height. The mowing height is controlled by the wheels on the back of the mowing deck, and by the adjustment knob on your lower left dash panel. Sounds like you may be missing that knob. That controls how far forward the lever can go, but it doesn't lock into position.
