Mowing the lawn this evening (6-30-22), when I flipped on the headlight switch and the tractor stopped running.  Tried to restart it and nothing... dead!  Any ideas or suggestions?  Much thanks.

Headlight should be fused. Maybe something else wired into it....

I don't really use the headlights.  They lights worked prior to tonight without any problems... I just happened to hit the light switch with 2 paths left to cut and she shut down.

Sounds like she stopped charging and the battery was down to a minimum. Hitting the lights took it over the edge. What's the battery voltage?

:confusion-confused:       Couple of things come to mind. Over the past three and a half decades the electrical connections could have loosened up or become a bit corroded. The 9 pin connector has been known to cause problems on tractors from this time period, pay special attention to it. The power to the engine ignition and your accessory loads (lights etc.) both come through the ignition switch, If the connectors are corroded/loose they will heat up and cause a tremendous voltage loss when more power is passing through them. 

Another thing could be the PTO and/or seat switch could have coincidently caused the engine to shut down though they are not connected to the lighting circuit.

@Marty Taylor  have to say I  agree with all above , those 5 series are known for electrical issues , especially cracked / shorted plug in connectors . if you are lucky enough to find, corroded connection or a blown fuse , consider yourself lucky . have any ALIGATOR CLIP TEST WIRES ? so you can jump / test a connection area ? if you can get it running , thats your opportunity time to test and probably find future related issues . hard to pin point an electrical . spot , there are so many variables , corrosion , wire chafing , cracked connectors , poor ground , dried cracked stressed wires jammed into a fried wire spot . if you get it going , plan on a rewire , pete
