That crankshaft reminds me of something I saw on an LS forum a while back...

A momentary oil starvation is all it is... nothing to be concerned about...

Might consider polishing with a micro polishing cloth...

@Snoopy11 I couldnt wait til tomorrow to take another look at that  --- whatever on the crank. I tried buffing with no change, and since that didnt faze it, I took it over to my pretty strong magnifier and gave it a close look see ... I really cant figure what it is, unless maybe it is a discoloration of a quick hot swipe of oil, I cant see anything except a very flat, smooth crank journal -- with a dark stripe!

If you can’t feel it with a fingernail, is it even there?

Looks like it will be a great engine.
Run baby run!

@pacerIs it a Starter/generator K or a later electric starter setup?

Me... I'd put a dab of muriatic acid on a rag, and rub... JUST to be sure...

BUT... if you don't feel anything with your fingernail... like Kevin said... it may not really be there...

@Pullstart Cant even come close to feeling anything, and mic-ing all around the area gives the same reading. Its like its .... dyed? in the metal.

@oliver2-44 Its the lectric starter model.
