Anyone chiseled out balance gears?

They are handy...just got one myself as a last resort to get the steering wheel roll pin out of a simplicity...an hour of hammering and it got it out in 10 seconds

Jeff,

 

Did you replace the valve springs? I think worn out springs regulary make clacking noises in a Kohler, even with the lash set correctly.

 

If you set the valves too tight and the noise goes away, that's the surefire sign the springs are worn.

No, the only thing I did was pull the pan and remove the BGs.

 

If I ever have it out again it will be for a full rebuild and I'll definitely keep this in mind, thanks!

I did not...shes still hammering hard as ever, going to have to do it soon, i pulled that engine so many times in 2022 i didn't want to do it again...
