Sticky shifter

The shifter on my 704 just recently started to get "Sticky" - that is when I try to shift while it's running it doesn't want to go in or out of 1st or 2nd gear easily. While it's turned off it seems there's a certain spot where the shifter doesn't move easily in all gears.

Any ideas before I tear her open??
