Apparently bears like salt, this is the area where I had the salt lick for the deer, rain washed salt off the block into the ground.

The Black Bears we Had On FT Drum,NY were like Raccoons, They would eat anything! Especially Loved MRE's Meal ready to Eat(something I hope I never Have to eat again) 20 + Years Of those. I always thought the Bears were welcome to them

On rare occasions we have had a black bear in our area, now there are several working the neighborhood.  Some believe that the inconsistent garbage service is the main attraction.  We have had our trash uncollected for days at a time, supposedly because they can't hire workers.  I have no concern with their presence but many are scared and their actions can be more of a problem than a bear.

Ed Kennell

As my wife left the house to do some shopping on Tuesday, she stopped at the mailbox. When she reached for the mail, she saw a black bear in the yard near the box.

She rushed back to the house to tell me.  I did get to see the bear, but wasn't able to get a picture.

It was a small young bear weighing 50-60  pounds.    Probably last years cub that was chased from his mother by a boar that wanted to breed the sow.

This bear has been seen and photographed several times in Red Lion and Felton.

Girl friend from Dawson City just mentioned in an email that the bears are stealing gasoline and drinking it, probably the ethanol that is attracting them.

Yet another reason to get rid of ethanol.  Maybe we can get the animal rights crowd on our side.
