rjg854 11,359 #402 Posted November 5, 2022 When I ran a separate 100 amp service to my new barn, I updated to an underground 200 amp service and meter box. Then left the 100 amp service for the house and ran 100 amp service underground to the barn. Course I can do all my own work so it wasn't that expensive 20 years ago.

We can run the wires and mount the box. The electrician needs to do all the connections. At first we're going to get minimal power to keep costs down. Enough circuits to get the job done then add more as we go.
ebinmaine 67,413 #404 Posted November 6, 2022 This afternoon Trina painted both small doors and one large front door. We got the sliding compound miter saw and its table moved to the new building and I cut 2 kick plates out of PT then installed them. The kick plates will protect the copper flashing. 6

Are you sure that an electrician needs to get a piece of the action? I have installed a number of services and all the electrical in my house, barn and machine shop, no electrician has ever set foot on the property. Maybe things are different in the Peoples Republic of Maine.
Jeff-C175 7,199 #406 Posted November 7, 2022 (edited) We can, as homeowners, do our own electrissikal work, even in NJ Nanny state, but need to pull permits and have inspections by AHJ. Edited November 7, 2022 by Jeff-C175

Jeff actually hit the nail on the head.. sort of. 7 hours ago, Jeff-C175 said: have inspections There's no inspection or permits needed to add electric service to our own building once it's up. The issue is the all powerful insurance industry. We have to have a LICENSED electrician do the work or IIFF we have a loss claim it has realistic potential to be denied. For a few dozen dollars I'm NOT taking a chance on a whole building. AND.... To be honest... Trina and I will tackle pretty much anything that needs to be done except electric and plumbing. No desire to do either one and we have friends that will. 3
ebinmaine 67,413 #408 Posted November 15, 2022 Note the new dirt in front of the door. Trina built us a nice little gravel ramp to get the cars in. She used her great big giant Honda Fit as the compactor. 8

We will be at some point. They didn't do it because we told them not to. It wasn't in the original build quote and we didn't want to add it to the mortgage. 1

The upper floor is 18' x 35' or so. So that gives about 630 square feet which holds ZERO TRACTORS. None/nada/ain't any/Zippo/ less than one. But thanks for asking though!! 😂
