New Pole Barn shop/garage/dojo building!!

We've always liked the LOOK of the handles on the people doors. The FUNCTION on the other hand has been poor.

The builder offered to replace them but we said no worries as we weren't sure what we wanted to do about them and we knew we needed a better lockable setup.

Also,

Each of us has ground/filed the door bottoms and doorways a few times trying to remove a little material as the building settled.

This afternoon I removed the doors one at a time. I did some power belt sanding on the interior piece and trimmed the outer edge with the circular saw.

I settled on using a larger sized gate style latch.

I drilled a small hole all the way through the doorways to insert a small piece of metal tubing. The Pull Wire for unlatching from inside is run through that tube.

Finally took some time to work on the new workshop end today.

On the left side I added some pine on the face of the PT beam to build it out even with the rest.

Then I put up the boards seen here across the outside edges and top.

The doorway opening is about 74 1/2" wide by 80 or 90" tall.

I'll do a pair of outward opening french doors.

I helped Trina hold the second front door in place while we checked for fit.

It was a bit too wide so we marked it with a pencil and I cut that extra off.

Then we set it in place and she held it with a scrap piece of wood and some short screws.

Her and the momma drilled all the hinge holes and installed all the bolts.

54 of them. ...

We wanted a home shop made doorknob that would open from both sides.

Here's what Trina came up with.
