Owls Head show

Recommended Posts

CRAZYFROG

Hey folks, sorry I haven't been able to get on in a bit. So busy with work. When is the show at Owls Head Museum? I'd like to try and make it. I'm hoping to bring a couple new tractors that I just bought. A couple RJ,s. Gotta go to PA to pickup one, other 2 are being delivered from Maryland.

@ebinmaine

Thanks for the heads up/reminder. Maybe I'll be able to make it this year. House project is coming to an end point for the time being. Hit quite a few snags, as you might expect in a house that's been around over 200 years, but we're pretty happy with the end result. Tractors haven't gotten the attention they could use, but....priorities. Just got out today to buy the second 10 gallons of 90 octane ethanol free for the summer.

You're welcome!

Hope you can make it!!

@CRAZYFROG and all those headed up.

Trina n I typically have a mid day lunch blabbing get together where we park.

Usually around 11 am.

No open flames are allowed so it's a cold meal.

We'll be parked off to the left by the tree line.

After that is the Noon playing of the Star Spangled Banner and the Air Horn Blow.

If anyone reading this is just curious about all kinds of transportation technology, this event is terrific. Not only the variety of vehicles brought for the the event, but the exhibits in the museum itself are first rate. I had my doubts if the travel would be worth it but I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I also stopped by the small but "illuminating" (couldn't resist) light house museum at One Park Drive in Rockland ME.

Looking back, my only regret is that I didn't take a bi-plane flight.

I also have these being delivered on July 1st. I have a couple others I'd love to bring to the show, but I'll need a bigger trailer.

Same problem here.

I'll likely bring 2 tractors.

I'd like to bring 5 or 6.

okay, so I'm leaving Friday morning for PA to pick up 5 tractors, a wagon and other stuff I've managed to score. I want to put a couple things in the show on Saturday. Can I just show up or do I need to sign up before hand?

Just show up.

No reservations required.

Display folk can arrive at 9 AM.

Spectator gates open at 10.

I'll be carrying this phone so I'll see Redsquare posts.

Me n Trina usually set off to the right by the treeline.

I've been only once, but note that the July 16-17 event is billed as a Truck Show so they'll take up the bulk of the space. Small, big, and HUGE trucks -- some 100 years old and others still in regular use. Last year there was an olive green Bell Telephone Service Truck just like I remembered from my youth. Quite the surprise.

But there were also plenty of tractors and other transportation-related items on display.

You don’t think your stress testing that Kia?
I’m thinking there’s 1000#’s just in tractors… then add in the trailer, that trailer tongue tool crate, a couple people and gear.

One people. No gear. Empty toolbox.

Trina has the rest in her car...

Total towing weight is about 1700, 1800 pounds.

The lawyer infested United States of America is the only place in the world these cars are not rated to tow. US Dealership websites will advise up to 1,200 or 1,800 lb without a trailer brake. Depends who you ask or where you read.

In other parts of the world these are rated to tow up to 2400 lb with a trailer brake.

I can absolutely see that.

Plenty of power. Goes down the road well. Smooth and well controlled.

It's not likely I'll go to the trouble of putting in the brake controller or trailer brakes but I would absolutely haul this multiple times and be perfectly happy.

It was awesome. Had a great time. Was nice meeting everyone. And so many people. I know I was exhausted after the trip to PA and back.

Looks to have been a great show, nice weather also.

I'm planning to go to a few (non WH) shows in August. Anyone care to see pictures of that? And if so, where should I post them?

There are most certainly several of us that would appreciate machinery pics.

If it's about tractors but not Wheel Horse you could put it in Other Brands. You could always put it in Non-tractor Related Discussion I suppose as well.

I didn't get very long to stare at that thing like I wish I had. I did speak to the guy for just a minute and he says that the kit is in such detail that you have to assemble the individual leaf springs and such.

I was talking to our friend about it this morning because the subject came up of other RC stuff like the tanks or whatever that she's into.

From what I understand you can get change outs for the suspension to change it over to air ride just for the look of it if you want. Dozens of little modifications you can make on these things.
